I would like to find a reliable Nassau Yanmar service diesel mechanic if you know any??? (so I can sail down to the Exumas!!!)

Hello, I discovered this all thread by you, and I am having exactly the same problem. I would greatly appreciate it. If you would let me know how the problem was resolved. I’m also in the Bahamas right now, and I am at a loss about what to do.
Thank you very much!

Re: Nassau, Yanmar Diesel Service?

Check posts #14 and #15, just above your post.
In this case, the exhaust elbow was removed, had it cleaned and the problem was solved.
Hope your problem is as simple to solve.
They also talk about other things to check earlier in the thread.

Re: Nassau, Yanmar Diesel Service?

I just got a notification on my smart-phone (that barely existed at the time I wrote this message LOL), somebody answered my message !! This was, what, 13 years ago!

That condition is the result of engine overload. First check that nothing is twisted around the propeller, like a rope.

In my case the problem was a clogged exhaust elbow, it made restriction to the engine. It is a 90deg elbow between the engine and the flexible exhaust hose. It has an inlet for water, like 3/4 inch hose. I removed it, and cleaned it with a long flat screwdriver and a steel brush. Clogged by hard carbon deposit. Later, back in USA, I bought a new one.

Hope this help, good luck.

Google "yanmar exhaust mixing elbow cut open" then click "images" and have a look at what you will be dealing with. Been there, done that, I now carry a complete spare and gasket.
