3GM30F wiring harness

A wire on the panel (B model with the tach) wiring harness broke at the engine. I can not find where it came from. It is the white with red stripe. At the panel it goes to an idiot light labeled "L. O. Filter". Not the oil pressure.

The wiring diagram shows it to the saildrive seal to warn of water inside. Doesn't say what it does if no saildrive, like mine. Massey (Yanmar owned distributor) tech's spent half an hour on the phone with me, couldn't find any reference and concluded that wire isn't used.

Not that I don't believe them BUT would someone with a GM30 and B panel look at their engine and let me know what they find?

Thanks, John

If you don't have a saildrive, you wont have the sensor so the light would never turn on. You should be able to safely ignore it.

Re: 3GM30F wiring harness

I had this exact problem on my 2GM20F, I was getting an alarm related to the saildrive seal though my boat is shaft driven. I eventually found the problem: On the wiring harness (and likely all Yanmar's) I found a plug with a couple of wires not plugged into anything, one of the wires eventually chafed through on my forward port side motor mount. The boat was 18 years old before this eventually happened.

Re: 3GM30F wiring harness

I have saildrives, and think I have seen that red/white wire with nothing connected.
Will have to check next time, if no-one else responds.
