Trimarans - All Piver Trimarans.

i want to start this thread for Piver Trimarans, their owners.

I own a Piver Encore that was professionally billy and splashed in 1975 in Santa Cruz California.

This is my second Encore and I've owned 3 other Pivers over the years. I also own a Searunner 31.

We should be trying to save as may of Piver Trimarans as possible. These are part off the modern day multihull history. The Maritime Museum in Virgins now had the full collection of Pivers designed and they are digitizing his plans and selling them to home builders.

So i hope this thread will be of help to others.

Good luck with this thread. I recently read Pivers book on crossing the pacific. The
Nimble 30 he did the photo shoot in Auckland with in 1963 was recently for sale and appeared to be in good shape. Would be interested in reading his other books if anyone is willing to loan them.

I've had several Pivers but i still like them.

Usually you find his books on Ebay plus the museum may be s selling copies.

I need to start buying his books. Boatguy if you are in the San Francisco bay area when i get some of his books don't mind loaning it out for a week.

about to buy my 1st Piver, and 2nd boat ever. She needs some loving, but is a one owner Nimble 30, built in England, 1963!

that's a cool looking Nimble in Merrit Island. hope it is not too far gone. looks like new paint. find youself a qualified inspector if you're not sure. send me a PM if you need any help.

I called on that nimble a while back. Part of the boat was left uncovered and 25 years of FL weather who knows.

But i ran into another Nimble but by the same company in the UK

I was impressed with Workmanship, but the only problem i saw was in the cockpit well for the motor. A good bit of root.

well, I went ahead and pulled the trigger, and am now the 2nd owner of the piver on Merrit Island!

we went over the boat pretty thouroughly, including cimbing in the amas as much as possible, pounding on the hull with a rubber mallet like a giant timpani, and walking(bouncing reall) on the deck barefoot. There's some previous repairs that seem solid, and 2 more serious ones that need to be done.

the sole of the transom needs to be replaced in the rear corner, and the rear member that goes to the port side ama is dry rotted, along with a small soft spot near one of the ama hatches. Other wise, she appears in remarkable shape.

as an ex carpenter, and professional laminator, I'm pretty confident I can tackle the repairs, other than tearing into a gorgeous old boat!

BUT - I wouldn't mind the suggestion of a competent inspector, and even a second set of eyes accustomed to the pivers... hint hint..

overall, I'm pretty excited about her, and will start by pulling her completely under the shed next week!

Congrats on getting her.

The question is why the rot on transom. Was it sitting on the ground uncovered.

Is the the model built in the UK?

Also be sure to check for dry wood termites as the do have them in Florida. If you see any sawdust piles you got them. They are a slow eating termite. And they can be fumigated, also, if you see any holes above above there pop you can spray directly in them. A direct hit can get most of them but a bomb won't work it needs to be tented for 24 hours.

When do we get to see more pictures of her.

I live it when another Piver is saved.

I would also recommend the museum in Virginia at elopater@marinersmuseum.org

They have the Piver plans and i believe they are $10.00 a sheet.

They will help if you have structural issues.

I sail a 40ft Piver Victress out of the Toronto Multihull Club. Structurally the boat is in great condition, just needs some TLC. Finding the cockpit small and designed for offshore use, I have considered cutting open the aft cabin roof and transforming it into an open seating area. Was going to extend the existing cockpit roof all the way back to the transom. This would allow for a nice outdoor seating/dining area in the aft section of the boat. Any thoughts on this proposal would be greatly appreciated.
I consider the boat our floating cottage. Huge deck space, sails wonderfully and very stable in heavier weather.

I would be very careful. When changing things from the original design. I had a Victress a long time ago and this guy Curr of the aft cabin roof. So one day i saw it from across the Marina and it was leaning forward. The weight that was taken off had to be replaced.

what i would do is weigh what you took off, weigh what you put on.

Then out light then add more weight to keep her sailing beautifully.
