Sadly, he probably has close to that into it, if you count court fees.

Re: The Flyin Hawaiian is gone!

One real problem is that some unsuspecting novice might buy it, thinking that it was actually a boat. I had a lady once who wanted me to re-build a room, which was supported by a rotten wall. I explained that she would first have to replace the wall. Once covered, anyone buying the house would not know that it was unsafe. She insisted that she wanted to use the existing wall. I declined to do that work - as did a bunch of other people. That's why we have building codes and inspections - to protect us from cheaters and idiots. The Flying Hawaiian is (as a boat) a death trap. Even as a houseboat it's seriously flawed. Sad story from start to ... well, we haven't heard the end of it yet.

65 by 32 foot catamaran

In a span of several days, this boat has come down in price by a whopping $170,000!

You better hurry! This one won't last! (so to speak)

Re: The Flyin Hawaiian is gone!

This is one of those stories that just keeps getting weirder and weirder. And sadder and sadder. It's easy to make fun of the guy, and he asked for it at times, but the sum of it is that he spent a couple of years of his life and all his savings building what has proved to be a piece of worthless, unserviceable junk. I feel bad for the guy.

Re: The Flyin Hawaiian is gone!

It's on eBay, where it was listed for $80 k with no bids.
It got relisted for the same price, still nobody is dumb enough to bid.
I suspect the listing was made by his mother in an attempt to recoup some of her retirement money spent on that monstrosity.

Re: The Flyin Hawaiian is gone!

On the plus side, it does come with a 200 gallon holding tank. Though if I was selling a boat on ebay, I might get the rope and stuff from being wrapped around the hanked on jib.

Such a sad story.

I don't know about that; I'm not capable of building so much as a dinghy without plans drafted by someone who knows naval architecture.

But the difference is that I know that, and I respect ship builders and the decades of experience it takes to become a master and attempt something as big as the FH.

So yes, I do smile watching someone who basically thought he was as good as a shipwright (without paying his dues) get his comeuppance.

Really , I served as apprentice position for a shipwright. Built boats clipped bungs bent planks and all that still get nothing from seeing someone fail.
I don't think you know what dues are. But you got swag and know how to smile so good on you. If that's how you get your giggles
