I get the impression that SA caters to the younger, not-yet-in-tune with the civility/politeness/pause-briefly-before-posting routines that us oldsters eventually come to see as way more productive and much less wantonly injurious...

As a younger sailor, which really says something about the demographic considering I'm a married 35 year old with two children, I think that a decent amount of ribbing is completely acceptable online (and in person).

Civility for the sake of civility is just as bad as being a caustic jerk all the time. Some people, like a man that builds a floating pig house then bites the marina manager and ends up in jail, does not deserve to have the red carpet rolled out. He deserves to get a rotten tomato thrown at him from a moving vehicle.

Re: The Flyin Hawaiian is gone!

Yeah, ribbing aside, I wonder how much build-up the poor guy had before he took the bite. I mean, those SA people are sending commandos after him, scouting out his every move from the end of every dock along the way. It's a little over the top IMO ....

Like when everybody went to Indy for the turn #2 fireball thrill

I'm sure if I built an airplane out of cardboard and Elmer's glue the local pilots at the airport would all be crowded around watching me through the windows. I mean when you see a guy juggling chainsaws, and he says he's got it covered, you just stand there in amazement waiting for a hand to get lopped off.

The sailinganarchy guys are definitely on his case, but their prophecies are coming true slowly but surely: the dude is a crazy, his boat will never survive open water, he has no idea what he's doing, etc.

Yeah, he's only one of the most respected naval architects in the world with a laundry list of successful designs. But I guess his participation on SA makes him a moron.

I'm not saying a cross word against him, merely pointing out that I think a lot of people on SA consider him the naval architect. Like no one else builds ships with solid track records.
