the salvage company advised it was to be cut up as it was a 2 hour by four wheel drive to get to the site

Rodcat,

Did you have escape hatches fitted to your 380? Would you recommend fitting them to anyone building a cat?

The damage done to your boat you refer to in the photo, is that the port out board hull?

Cheers,

Phil

Wrong again, Catty!
There's a Fusion 40 of similar vintage launched at Noosa a couple of mackerel seasons ago, also called Minx.
Used Fusion 40 Sailing Catamaran In Current Qld Survey 2d 2c for Sale | Yachts For Sale | Yachthub

Now for sale, Harvey Bay or Coral Sea?

If vessel length is correct, probably the Spirited 380 "Minx"

YEOW! I can see why you're called "Catty", it suits.

The data base lists one vessel with an Australian registered name of Minx. It does not give any details of the maker or designer of the vessel. The securite warning does not state whether the vessel is Australian registered or not. I have shown that there are at least 2 catamarans with a similiar (but not identical) length using the name of "Minx". Both are known to operate in the vicinity of the securite warning ie. Southern Queensland. Perhaps there are more, I don't know. But then I'm not the one jumping to conclusions about the vessel type.

BTW There is a full stop in your post after the word Minx. Perhaps your mother should tutor you a bit more on punctuation, as well as manners?

Spirited 380 minx reported on this forum in Palau. Being from Aus one may assume it has Aus rego. Maybe it hasn't, hence the "?"

Just so happens the Link shows the correct build date, home port and length of the s380. Yes I know its a long bow to pull. Try plotting the position given and you may realize its a bit of a hop from Noosa or wherever your mates Non Aus registered Minx is. Hence the question mark.Reports had s380 Minx returning to Aus from the Solomons. The earlier post had it in Palau. Fits???????

I suspect more facts will surface with time including a positive ID on the boat.

Yes I should have got my lawyers to check the position of the ? so It didn't confuse you, I mistakenly thought you could work that out. My appologies.

So as we don't get too off topic here ,why don't you get busy and start a new thread of all the boats named "minx" you can find?

Re: Spirited 380

Moving along...
I noticed that the MSI no longer contains this Securite notice, not being well versed in these things does this indicated that the danger has past? Or is it only a temporary notice?
My thought would be it would stay on the list for a longer period than 2-3 days, anyone actually know?

Hopefully everyone is safe.

Re: Spirited 380

Hi All Thought I'd throw in my first comments on this forum. We launched Spirited Away 18 months ago and have just completed a 6 month coastal cruise from Noosa to Cairns and back. I agree with Peter's (Spiritcat) comments entirely. We found the 380 to be extremely well suited, comfortable and safe for coastal cruising as we had built and equiped her for this purpose. In a year or two when we go further offshore we will certainly need to fit a watermaker and some extra solar charging capacity. However our current 480 l water and 220 L fuel capacity was quite adequate for coastal cruising. Regarding comments about the 380 being overpowered, this should never be an issue if you reef early. Our intention during the build was purely for cruisng not racing. We considered a shorter cruising rig but are very glad we didn't. Having the sail area for light airs was a huge benefit and the rig is easily reefed when needed. Being relatively new to offshore cruising we were at no time out of our comfort zone. We can't wait to sail north again next year.

Re: Spirited 380

Can anyone shed any more light on the plight of Minx? Are the crew safe? What is the state of the vessel?

Re: Spirited 380

I sent an email to Jon about three weeks ago but have not had a reply and do not have any other contact information.
Hopefully both crew and cat are OK.

Re: Spirited 380

Heard from Jon, see attached email:

Hi Peter

True story!
Yes, thankfully we are alive!
Last Port was Noro (Solomons) to position 17*20.443' S - 154*17.623' E about 380 Nm East of Mackay where I had no option other then to activate the EPIRB at 2:15 on Dec 21 2011 after loosing drive and with blown out main & genoa in 3 to 4 mtrs swell with a Cyclone developing and chasing us.
An Australian plane and the "Ocean Lord" a large Indian/japanese owned ship (coal carrier) assisted in a dramatic rescue operation.
We endured 72 hours in rough conditions before calling for assistance.
The plane and Ship reached us some five hours after the EPIRB.
e spent 16 days abord the Ocean Lord disembarking at Newcastle NSW on Friday Jan 6 2012.

Do post the above if you choose, we are hopeful for any information relating to Minx.

Great to hear of your trip to New Cal' Peter...
Fare winds....

Cheers - Jon

Never good to hear about a potential loss of a good yacht, but luckily all the crew are safe and sound.
