Re: Seawind 1160 or 1250

All good info, but I think the OP was asking about the new 1250 rather than the older 1200.

Re: Seawind 1160 or 1250

Hey Rusty,
It's interesting that the fellow we sold our Seawind 1000 to sailed extensively beside a 1160 in the Bahamas last winter. He said the Seawind 1000 was almost always faster than the 1160. Both captains were single handing.

I would agree if both boats have the standard sail set. There's lots of 1160s with a large overlap headsail which will give them an advantage. You have to remember the 1160 is 3t heavier

We put 4' stern extensions on our old Seawind so the waterline length was probably pretty close to the 1160. Ours was also the soft top model which would make her about 300-400lbs lighter than the standard 1000. And we also had a square top main and screecher. I would guess we carried almost equal sail area to the 1160 but were quite a bit lighter.

Re: Seawind 1160 or 1250

AJ I knew your boat was faster than most 1000's (for the reasons you stated). Cameron, the owner of 1160 "Doublewide" said the stock 1000 should be slightly quicker than the 1160 due to the cleaner hull, not dragging the sail drives.

Regarding the 1250 rather than the 1200, wow I don't know how I missed that... oh well, I have no personal experience with the design. TMR I guess (too much rum)

Any Seawinds near Annapolis for a meet up, I'd like to get on one to see it up close.

The new Seawind 1250 is a sweet boat. I would love to see one at the Annapolis Show, but alas, the powers to be have said NO

Unless there has been a change I believe The Finish Line of the Treasure Coast, FL (866)369-3291
Brings one of the Seawind models every year to Annapolis.

They say the demand is so great, that the factory can't keep up......thus no promo model 1250 boat for the Annapolis show.....at least that is what the Fla. dealer says.

Re: Seawind 1160 or 1250

Seawinds are very nice boats, The one with the flip up back doors is excellent, but out of my price range, So I settled for a Gemini 105 second hand,
They have a couple of newies on display at Sydney at the moment.
