Indeed weavis. A quiet launch and run does seem his style.

Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

Hi Atoll, are those windows are bolted in? I guess that is standard for the boat but do you favour that? Ours need to be redone, they were bolted originally but the previous owners replaced them and went with just glue. Wondering if I should revert to bolts. The aft windows (for example) on Waquiez Amphitrite are pretty big!

Nice! Love the windows. So nice to see such a large view on a rebuild.

yes they are through bolted every 3 inches into a 1 inch molded in recess.
sealed with 25mm neoprene tape then sikaflex around the edges.

the windows are pretty structural so for them to be only glued they would need a larger border and quite a bit of reinforcement around the frames as they did in the later models like the espirit.

I would much prefer not to have the bolts, but this is probably beyond the skill set of most home builders,as their is a slight bend in the acrylic window that would need to be formed first.

also a fair bit of flex in the hulls along the nearly 8ft opening, with the fwd bulkhead intersecting it.
slightly later models I see have this long side window broken up into 3 sections, adding a bit of stiffness.

Having watched the installation of a few long thin windows on new boats, I see that they put black goop around and then bolt/screw every few inches.
Despite the obstruction to visibility, Im a fan of 'smaller is better' in terms of structural integrity and strength. I always get the urge to put uprights in glass or plastic long sweeps of glass every two foot or so.

There is a reason portholes survived.

the proof will be in the pudding tomorow,if they leak or not!
expecting heavy rain.

next on the to-do list, is the floors in the 2 hulls galley and nav areas, which I couldn't do till these windows had been properly sealed.

will post some exterior photos once the outer sikaflex seal is done, hopefully before the seagulls crap on it
