not half as much fun as grinding out the old fiberglass engine mounts in 90 degree heat!

engine is now in ! ready to be hooked up when it gets a bit cooler

Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

nearly got an engine!

talk about blood sweat, tears and fiberglass itch!

engine is now more or less hooked up just gota run a raw water pipe and fuel lines.

those red spots you see in the engine bay really are blood!

engine controls all hooked up,and transmission /stern drive is peachy and hopefull in parrelell alignment, important when using cv joints.

think im going to put a bilge pump type non-return valve just above the waterline to stop the raw water draining out if the sea cock is left open

Certainly some interesting engineering on that drive leg! Be interested to hear how it performs.

me too!

i went to a lot of effort getting the drive flange (gearbox) and the output flange(fly wheel) parralel so the universal joint only has to deal with a vertical misalignment.

i also fitted a flexible coupling on the drive flange,so hopefull that should smooth any slight mis- alignment.........hard working through a 4' hole using the gearbox/stern drive flange as datum

though if nothing else the fabrication is very solid!,plus it only has to get the cat 350 miles, then can be re engineered if nessacary

pirate Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

been a busy few weeks,so sorry for not posting more!

today we launched!

"FAR ATOLL"
,finally after the guys in the yard squeezed the travel lift between adjacent boats, not without having to get a jack out and lift the port hull 8 inches so the wheel would pass on the travel lift!

duly christend the catamaran with the help of the lovely "anne" from the marina office.

decided on the name FAR ATOLL......as when i went on sunday to buy lettering these were the only letters that the shop had not run out of!!!!!

five and a half weeks work to go from bare hull to ocean going yacht!!

a few issues with transmission vibration, but she motors at 8 knots! and hopefully leave for falmouth on thursday weater permitting god willing!

a few pickkiess

Atoll, what is the idea behind the jack lift for the stern drive? I thought they tilted?

it does tilt! only this one came off a speed boat so the leg is very short!
the jack and landrover prop shaft allows me to lower the drive to the waterline!
