Measurements for Furling Gennaker Lagoon 450

I want to order a furling gennaker for a new Lagoon 450, from Hong Kong Sailmakers - does anyone know the measurements they need to make it?.. I thought that they had already made them before but they are still asking for measurements..

Measure your old one..
Luff, leech and foot.. and tell them its the old one then they can compensate for stretch.

Thanks very much - I'll post the price up here when I get that back from Hong Kong Sail Makers along with contact info and perhaps that will be useful for someone in the future.

You might want to check North Direct as well. They have very good prices on stock sails.

Got a quote from HKSM as follows:

1.5oz Nylon, 127.6sqm Star Cut, $1800 plus shipping $130 to Europe Fedex

I think it is a good deal, any thoughts?

Re: Measurements for Furling Gennaker Lagoon 450

I went through exactly the same 2 weeks ago for my 450, I visited Lee Sails in HongKong. I would check the J measurement again cos I believe the Lagoon measurement is from the Jib Tack to the front side of the mast. if you are like me, I will be putting the sail on a furler on the genaker pole which is an extra 80 cms. For your information i used a luff height of 17. It could be an expensive error.

Re: Measurements for Furling Gennaker Lagoon 450

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your advise on the adjusted J measurements.
Do you also happen to know the luff(17), leech and foot of your gennaker made by Lee sails.
If you also have a Code 0, would you be able to give those sizes as well.
I have contacted 2 sail makers and both come up with different sail sizes for a symmetrical spinnaker, gennaker with furler roll attached to the sprit and a Code 0.

Thanks in advance,
Louis

Re: Measurements for Furling Gennaker Lagoon 450

he figures poste by me above are of the boat itself, not the measurements of the sail!!!

The sail can have foot larger than the distance between the tack and mast base. The tack in any case is further out than the headstay base). The clew of the sail can be far behind the mast.

E.g, for my Lagoon 400, I had to choose between different sizes of sail, between Code 0 to a gennaker that ranged from 80 sq.m. to 120 sq.m.

You need to consult and trust the sailmaker on possible shapes and sizes (based on boat measurements) according to intended use.

Re: Measurements for Furling Gennaker Lagoon 450

Hello Louis
Please ignore my 17m luff measurement it was a typo it should be 18m.
Currently HKSM seem to be much cheaper than Lee sails, I am waiting a response from Lee to see if they can be more competitive

A code 0 is still under discussion but I want to use the Genaker first to see how large the missing "gap" is and whether I can live with it.

Re: Measurements for Furling Gennaker Lagoon 450

Thanks guys,

I was aware of the boat measurements of course. It is just that 2 sailmakers use the same measurements and come up with different sail areas for the 3 head sails, knowing of the existence of the gennaker pole.
Thanks for the 18m luff, Mike, that might help a bit.
Will post more when decisions have been made.

Louis
