But not all of us are cashed up enough to buy an Outreamer.

Maybe getting the Dollars together will take much longer than a couple of season's.

Buying a near derelict and restoring her over 2 seasons was the only way I was going to go sailing...

If anyone wants the Kantola it is sitting in the Dandy Haven Marina yard in Hampton, Virginia, USA. A great price and with all the gear, just needs quite a bit of work. The owner really wants to see her sail again.

I am not giving up because of the work, heck I was looking for a project boat because I have little to no cash for a well maintained boat. No, I am giving up because like all boats it is too small for me. I am 6'6" (199cm). I want to someday be able to stand, sit , sleep, and eventually use the head on my boat. No multi under 40 nor mono under 36 feet will give me these things. It's not like I'm asking for much, just a little space to move. I feel like goliath everytime I enter a vessel that is in my price range. I am tired of hearing from owners that it's "Huge" or "Tons of Headroom" or even "berths are really long". Maybe if you're a leprechaun!

It's been years of looking but, I think that I'll just give up on trying to live aboard a boat completely.

If anyone wants the pics of the Kantola I'll email them.

Sorry didn't mean to be a DH, just know some people here who have got excited about a "project" and started with huge enthusiasm. Years go and progress becomes slowlier untill it stops.
Just think that everyone should cool down in that kind of situation and get good idea what it's going to cost and how much time it will take.
Or is it so that if one stops thinking for a while, these projects never start and good boats will not be saved ?

Absolutely agree, they can be a money pit, but a smart operator, and a shrewd buyer with contact's can have a result...........sometimes.

Not just a $$$ thing it was also sail handling on a liveaboard 50 footer, and getting out to areas when the weather is right.

I don't want to be 500nm out at a reef when it's blowing 20 knot's plus, yet i'll need that on a sailing cat to get there.

What I want is a cat to carry all the live aboard gear, that will sail at 7 knot's in 5, that will motor at 12 in flat water and be handled easily by 2 people, yet cost around $120,000AUD.

Not possible in sail

This is far from the perfect boat, but hopfully it will do what I need, if not what I want.

If you are looking for a trimaran with headroom check out the Searunner 37 or 40. I have about 6' 4'' in my 40 and with the way the boat is designed and built you could drop the floor a few more inches. It has deep and wide bilges so the loss of floor space would be minor.

That is a beautiful tri. How much did you end up paying?

By the time the boat is finished I will have 3 months of work and $25k cash into it. I hope to add a Kiwi prop, a profurl furling system, and a cape horn wind vane. I really would like to be able to head south by fall.
