Our motors don't radiate heat into the boat.

The beauty of a well designed outboard powered boat.

Sweat. Make sure there are hatches or ports that have covers or awnings allowing them to be left open and turn on the cabin fans.

Re: How important is an air conditioner for F/T?

REQUIRED at a marina. Which is fine because you have unlimited power.

Mostly unnecessary on anchor or mooring.

However! We've had some nights here recently in the Abacos where I wish I could dehumidify and drop the temperature in the master cabin around bed time. We might be getting parts to run it from the inverter for a couple hours each day. Haven't fully decided yet.

It may be self evident to some, but the OP asks a valid question. Unfortunately it is not possible for any of us to know the correct answer for him. Many folks adjust and don't mind too much.

I'm sure you all remember Lee Kuan Yew, the political leader of Singapore for 31 years. Probably better known to some of you as Harry Lee. Or Harry from Sinkers.

Over those 31 years Singaporeans multiplied their GDP 100 times, that's 10,000% economic growth! Without any mineral resources. Not enough freshwater or arable soil to support agriculture and a significant population. Just human resources, who had to work hard and smart.

Singapore is at the Equator. Warm humid tropics. Not much breeze some days.

A city state that requires people to work at any time, not just when the conditions are suitable.

Here's LKY's wisdom on the matter:

Thank you or the replies. As we look for a boat, information from experienced sailors is extremely important to us. Still learning the ins and outs of such a lifestyle, but convinced it is for us. Just don’t want to be miserable. We have vacationed in the carribean. Yes, its hot. We want to cruise full time.

Re: How important is an air conditioner for F/T?

found living in FL Keys during the summer we are VERY grateful for our air conditioners while at dock and working on the boat! On the hook, we didn't use them, just opened all the hatches, portholes, companionway door and on one very hot night slept out in the cockpit. A sun shade at dock helps although it needs to be low enough to account for early morning/late afternoon lower angle of sunlight.
