Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

I've always liked the layout of the Gemini's.

It doesn't look like it is in too bad of shape, and with some cosmetic updates it could work out well for someone.

Wow crabby, if that does just make me want to retire right now and pt that boat back where it should be. But on the other hand, its hulls don't look livable.+

Just crawl in there. It'll be like being back in the womb

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

I think that might be the first time I have ever seen a Newick cat. I'd take off the existing cabin and start over. Maybe do a three separate cabin thing like some of the smaller Woods cats.

These slim hulls cannot support a large cabin between best to put it back in its true fast mode with maybe a tent as cabin

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

I was thinking of just a small center cabin big enough for a berth and a place to cook. You're probably right about the hulls being too slim for anything though.

Doesn't it already have the small center cabin? It seems perfect as is really as a power cruiser.

sail boat Catamaran 4 Sale

This one sounds familiar. Maybe in better shape than the previous Gemini and for not much more.

Dick Newick just passed away. He was known for really fast boats including big time race boats costing millions and most of his designs are skimpy on accommodations. That boat is a race boat pure and simple. It is an overgrown beach cat kinda like a Stilleto or a Mac 36. It will never be a cruiser. Here's one that is a cruiser but still is far from a condomaran. It is not cheap or a project, though. I'll bet it's really fast. too. After all it's a Newick!

Now if you could buy that for 75k less, enclose the aft cockpit like a Chris White Atlantic and redo the inside, you'd have a winner

You'd better do it in unobtainium because those slim hulls just can't take the weight.

A little foam, 5200, and bits of balsa to rot out at a later date, and you'd be set.

A Mac 36 probably has more load carrying ability than that boat. It's a super cool package, but really can't to mush with it. More like build yourself your own Neel 45 if you insist on "modifying" it for cruising. It really looks perfect as is, but not super practical for most people.

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

I spoke to Dick a couple times after he moved out west and he was a really nice guy and still passionate about fast multihulls after all these years. It was sad to hear of his passing. I had a factory built Tremolino a few years ago with the "half moon" ama's and a BIG square head rig. That little Trem just flew! She handled like a dinghy and was a joy to sail in any conditions which was apparently typical for Newicks. I had her flying two hulls one day about 5 miles off San Diego in gnarly conditions (rare for San Diego) just leaping over big ocean swells until all-hell-break-loose and I broke a couple things and lost my daggerboard. She could zip along in a zephyr with the giant screacher and was one of the funnest boats I have ever owned or sailed.
