Best Marina to haul a cat on east coast?

We plan to leave Fort Lauderdale for Annapolis in April. I'm looking for a good marina somewhere along the way that can haul a cat and will allow us to paint the bottom ourselves for a reasonable cost. Any recommendations would be much appreciated!!

Re: Best Marina to haul a cat on east coast??

Here is a link to a thread on cat haulout facilities:

http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...es-103023.html

In that thread there is a spreadsheet listing many boatyards. You cat has a narrow enough beam to have a number of options. Our cat has a 25' beam. We have hauled out at Cracker Boy in Riviera Beach, FL and Cape Charles Yacht Center in Cape Charles, VA.

Cheers,

Is Crackerboy still in business near Pam Beach? They hauled my 42 ft cat and allowed me to do work. I think we had to buy the bottom paint from them though.

Yes, they're still in business. There are two boatyards in the Palm Beach area, one in Riviera Beach and the other in Fort Pierce.

Cracker Boy Boat Works

Chesapeake Boatworks or Stingray Point Boatyard, both in Deltaville, VA. Both allow owners to stay on boat while working on it. The places have bath houses.

Joe,
How tight was your fit at Cape Charles?

Our Voyage 430 is supposed to be 24.9 ft wide and we must have has no more than 1 1/2 inches each side there. That was for the chainplates that stick out an inch plus, which might not have been accounted for in the 24.9 ft.

Missing from the list: Scorpion marine @ Port Canaveral. 110 ton Travellift with 30' beam.

If you ever get as far north as Rhode Island the Hinckley yard in Portsmouth is a very good haul out place for multihulls. You also get to see some pretty amazing boats while you are there. I have been rebuilding my trimaran there for the past four years. The crew is very helpful.

Georgetown Yacht Basin can haul out catamarans to 30' beam, they are very good and allow owners to work on their boat, they are a day sail north of Annapolis very protected on the Sassafras river.

Port Annapolis Marina in Annapolis (duh) has a haulout and lift for cats. It's not on the list but they added the new haulout and wide lift last year. They'll also let you paint your own bottom. Or, you can hire First Mate Services at the yard there. They do excellent work at rates significantly lower than standard Annapolis rates. They might even sell you the paint at the wholesale/trade price.

We're 24'10". It was very tight, but the crew was very careful. We're planning on going back there at the end of March.

We saw Jabberwock there the last time we hauled out. That's a very nice boat.

Cheers,
