Hmm... let me see, been at sea for a week or more, needs fuel, baccy and booze; no wait, let's read 580 or more meaningless posts of CF first...
Not going to happen

Re: Atlantic Delivery
Maybe my math is wrong but it looks like he's only gone 66 miles in the last 24 hours. Any thoughts?
I tried looking at the weather and it looks like a storm came through yesterday but from what I can tell it should have skirted him. I'm not great with reading weather so I'm purely just guessing.
Obviously there's no way for us to know what happened but maybe someone that is better at reading the weather or wind could speculate.

Re: Atlantic Delivery
As of earlier this morning, about 0926z, Wed 12 March 2014, his position was:
36* 47' N x 33* 17' W
Horta now bears about 64*T, at about 245nm....
(that's about 55 mies distance made good in the past 23 hours, about 2.4kts VMG...and about 178nm made good in the past 59 hours, about 3kts VMG....)
And, over the weekend he only made about 100 miles...
But, back last Wed he was averaging 6.5 - 7kts...
And, then Thurs morning he jogged to the North for a bit and then turned NE...and still averaged over 7kts heading NE'erly....
And then on Friday morning, headed North all weekend, but averaging only about 2.3kts...
So, either there was a problem on-board....sails, rigging, steering, etc...or the weather we were predicting here, did not happen and he had unfavorable (and/or too light) winds...
But, I'm still seeing southerly winds at 15-20 kts right now, for his current position...and then changing to SW and then westerly, and lightening up some on Thurs.....and then swing NW and then Northerly late on Thurs and into Friday....(depending on his progress, will depend on his wind)
And, then some easterly winds for Sat/Sun...
I'm guessing that there was some problem on-board....since he'd certainly be able to have made better distance over the past few days, with the winds that he has had...
We shall see!!
Fair winds, Phil!!

my thoughts as well,2.5 knots in a cat with southerly winds is drifting
i wonder if they still have a mast,or rigging loose,so unable to raise sail?

Re: Atlantic Delivery
They have steering as it seems they can hold a course for hours so not drifting I think. Just guessing but rigging would be on the list of possibilities. Could have lost a sail too. Fuel situation may prevent motoring. We will know after they make Horta but something isn't right.

as they say sh#t happens, though after friday when he turned north into head winds, instead of bearing off on an easterly heading, may indicate that he has lost a backstay, hence the slow downwind progress now with no,or drastically reduced sail area.

no backstay on a cat, if lost a stay, he lost the whole rig
