And the information presented in the opening post, later turned out to be Grossly INCORRECT, & or LEFT OUT. With regards to the vessel in question.

My (2st, In Depth) response was based on details which (THEN) were written as; The Boat's Needing new; propulsion, sail inventory, & ALL of the other items which I delineated.
Things which later proved to be Not At All the case.

As to your purchase, good luck.
However, I Definitely wont be offering up any more advice. PARTICULARLY when the details which I am basing such on are a "moving target". IE; Are Changing, & or Incomplete Facts (SIC).
I interpreted the op's first post as indicating the boat had been repowered. Reading the link he furnished in his first post provided the rest of the info I mentioned in my post #8.
I got all that from the first post.
Perhaps reading comprehension is a civilized attribute.

Re: 1996 Custom 49' Cat in New Smyrna

Thanks all for the input! The epoxy really caught my eye as it won't ever blister. Also significant recent rework completed. Still an old boat- probably pay as much for ongoing maintenance as the payments for a newer boat...

Re: 1996 Custom 49' Cat in New Smyrna

It's an old boat, but you seem to have an old boat budget. A new 49' cat will set you back a whole bunch more than whatever you might pay for Kraken. Of the four boats We've bought, only the first, a 31' Piver in 1976, was newer than 20yo. The first three all served us well. We expect the newest to do that as well. The cedar/epoxy hull construction was a plus for us.Interest on a new 49' cat will likely be more than the cost of maintaining an old. And then the new one becomes an old one, and you lose on depreciation. Of course there are a lot of tradeoffs, but older boats are certainly worth considering.

If she is sound and the wife likes her go for it. God bless you with that many kids. I hope you can home school them.

Yup, that would be us. Just sailed her up to Virginia where we'll get some work done and try to get exploring next Spring.

Cheers,

He said they are adult children. I'm assuming that means offspring who are over 18 yrs old.
