What is the -2 reference in the Pearson 28-2, etc. ?

I see some boats are a -2, for example the Pearson 28-2. Is this just to reference that it's a second generation model? Rather than keep the same name forever like a 1997 or 2012 Ford Taurus, the mfg's use a -2 to indicate a newer model.....right?

Yes the 2 refers to a model change, sometimes minor, sometimes major.

Found a site about the Pearson:
PEARSON 28-2

Mostly right.

Pearson Yachts built the PEARSON 28 between 1977-80 < PEARSON 28 (1977-80) sailboat specifications and details on sailboatdata.com >
and the 28-2 between 1985-89 < PEARSON 28-2 (1985) sailboat specifications and details on sailboatdata.com >

They also built several other 28 ft boats, such as the Triton.

Oops, I see John beat me to it.
