What is a "blickitat" ?

This just listed near me... I'm assuming the make/model is a typo. Anyone know what make / model this actually is? And, based on the limited information, what's your thoughts? I'm honestly looking for something I need to do a little work on. I will sell it in 2 years or less... casually sailing Yaquina bay area in the meantime.

Re: What is a "blickitat" ?

Someone took a fine old fiberglass hull and made a piece of "blickitat" out of it.

According to google: probably german. 2 words, (blick) view, (tat) do.

My guess, something like "make an appointment to view"

Re: What is a "blickitat" ?

I saw that boat and wondered the same thing. Looks like a projrct, but has a salty look. Pictures aren't very good. Go look at her if you're interested, can't hurt. If you end up fixing it up nice in a couple of years, let me know. That'll be about the time I start looking for a bigger boat. =)

Re: What is a "blickitat" ?

It's a typo. Klickitat is a one horse town on the Klickitat River in Washington State. The Klickitat is a tributary to the Columbia. If you absolutely must get to Klickitat, you can get there by heading east from Vancouver WA until you hit Lyle WA, then north on route 142 till you hit Klickitat.

When you get to Klickitat you'll discover that Gertie Stein was dead right. There is no there there!

Love the Washington State Ferries. They are so splendidly antique ;-)!

Re: What is a "blickitat" ?

Here's the Mukilteo / Clinton (Whidbey Island) ferry I ride to get to the mainland.
Thankfully it's not often. The photos in the following link were taken during a 50 knot storm which is quite common during this time of year.
My son was on the previous ferry run which was a half hour before these shots were taken.

Re: What is a "blickitat" ?

Lovely! We rarely get it that "problematic" on the Tsawwassen to Sidney run across the Straits of Georgia, but just last week a ferry from Duke Point (Nanaimo), a much bigger ship than the one you show, chose to stand off Tsawwassen for seven hours before she considered it safe to approach her slip.

Re: What is a "blickitat" ?

Suplementary: Kalakala is another of those splendidly obscure places in Washington State after which the State Ferry System likes to name its vessels. Kalakala lies on Lake Tyee, a mile or two north of the little burgh of Concrete on State Route 20 that leads through majestic mountain scenery on the south slope of Mt. Baker from one nothing town, Winthrop, to another such, Sedro Wooley.

The great consolation is that if you continue west on #20, you come on to Whidby and Camano Islands whence it's a short ferry hop to Port Townsend.

Port Townsend was named by Captain Vancouver after his friend George Townshend who played major roles in the Seven Years War as it unfolded in British North America, specifically he took command of the British forces on the Plains of Abraham when Lord Howe and his second in command were killed. The rest is, as they say, history, and Canada is what she is today largely as a result of that bataille. By the time of the insurgency in '76 Townshend was Master General of the Ordinance, and if I recall, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, and had risen above active involvement in the fray.

Kalakala lies about five and forty miles due south of my home, over the very peak of Mt. Baker as America's national bird flies to and from her autumn feeding grounds on the Harrison River very near my home. Went to have a chat with a few of them there just a coupla weeks ago.

Re: What is a "blickitat" ?

A sad end to a ferry I rode as a small child.
I never noticed the vibration everybody complained about as I was too smitten with the fun of riding a ferryboat.

Now, when crossing between Mukilteo and Whidbey, I don't usually even get out of the car unless I need to pee.

Re: What is a "blickitat" ?

Ferry on the roll?? Call that rough? First shift as oiler back in '62 we had chickens in the engine room after a truck of them tiped over on the way to Tsawassen. Hide behind an island till the wind went down.
