so let me add two more boats that could match your visions:

both yards are near Kiel Canal and all yachts are custom built.
For classic design / one off etc. Yachtdesign Georg Nissen
even near Kiel located.

Dockie.. As you frequent the Baltic a lot, it would be worth your while sidetripping to Poland. It was DoubleWhiskey who turned me onto the quality of Boatbuilders in the country. I have been truly amazed at the quality of design and finish from several yards. Nothing is too much trouble and the price is in the "reasonable" range.

You could have your very own, one off DOCKHEAD 60.

If you live aboard permanently a pilothouse is great for light, space etc. We wouldn't be without it. But we don't have a pilothouse helm and don't need it because we have a hard dodger, making our cockpit ideal for ocean passages. Even the off watch sleeps there on a day bed. When we bought the boat we never realized just how good a setup this was.

I would suggest that you don't need a full helm inside. Remote engine controls a la mathers micro commander (this is what Chris White boats use) and a good AP control head are sufficient. But would also submit that there is a lot more to choosing between a cat and a a mono than whether a particular example has a pilothouse.

Looking at boats is always fun.

A few questions answered in the beginning will help narrow a search quickly:

1. What range of "asking prices" is one seriously considering? (The Budget)

2. Does one want only a new boat? Or, will a used boat satisfy? (The Age: New or Used)

3. Is one open to the hull material used, or does one have a preference or requirement?
(The Hull Material)
(Aluminum, Fiberglass, Steel, Wood, Composite)

4. Are "homebuilts" out of the question? (The Builder)
Some pilothouse boats are made by famous yards, some are made in someone's back yard. Is one open to either or only to famous brands?

Size alone (LOA) is not enough to know, in my opinion, because I have come across relatively large boats (over 40 feet LOA) that are made of Steel, Fiberglass, Aluminum, Wood, Composite (cold-moulded), and Ferro-Cement.

And I have come across some relatively large boats that are "home-built" (often a Bruce Roberts design) and others that are made by professional boat yards.

How about a Columbia 45 motorsailer? I know where's the one that has been completely refit with new rigging, new sails, new roller furler, new wiring and plumbing, new hull paint and topside paint. Keel bolts redone. All new ports. Has a good 50 hp Perkins. Huge interior needs to be redone. This was a restoration project that finished all exterior and seaworthiness items, but illness ended the dream. If anyone is interested contact me directly.
