New Boat - CS30

Just closed on a 1985 CS30. The boat will be kept up in Georgian Bay Ontario which is considered one of the best fresh water cruising areas in the world. We are very excited and eager to spend weekends exploring this great area on our new boat.

Wondering if there was anybody else cruising the Georgian Bay area who might offer some advise on locations, hazards, group cruises, must see areas, etc.

We sail out of Hindson Marine, Penetang. Excellent marina, well kept and friendly service.

Years ago we owned a CS Merlin, well built and performs nicely. We also sailed a friends CS30 several times.

Georgian Bay can be extremely challenging in areas with breathtaking scenery, or very simple open areas for short or long trips. What we like is that in just an hour or so we can be anchored in a secluded area or stay out a little longer to hang off islands such as Giants Tomb, Hope, Beckwith, or Christian Islands.

Summer trips up to the North Channel, or eastern shores are fantastic.

There is so many different areas, that it will take you years to see it all.

Racing out of Midland Bay Sailing Club, or Collingwood with an annual Georgian Bay Regatta.

Great info and thanks for your reply. We will be keeping the boat at Queen's Cove Marina. Getting some local knowledge like yours will make our Georgian Bay experience safer and more enjoyable.

Queens Cove is well kept too, we kept our CS there for a few years. Its just a little further distance in and out. The only marina we know with wide covered docks, particularly nice in the bad weather. Also close to some nice anchorages around Beausoleil Island.

Friendly bunch of sailors with much local knowledge to share.

The seller had offered to ship the boat down to Oakville where we are located however I chose to keep it in Georgian Bay and take advantage of a great cruising area. This is our first boat and completely new to Georgian Bay. I expect to pick the brains of local sailers however I am somewhat nervous hearing that Georgian Bay has 30,000 islands above water and 60,000 below.

Like everyone else sailing in the area i will have to start somewhere...!!

Hope to meet up with some of you at one of the great anchorage spots this summer.

Love the CS36T, great boat! Have friends who are heading south this year from Lake Ontario on their CS36

Great boat. Had one in 1984 and then got a Merlin. CS boats have stood the test of time most are still sailing and they stopped building over twenty years ago. There's a good CS group on Yahoo groups. Covers all the models.
