You could try replacing them with the push button latches from lee valley tools. I cant give you a link but if you go to their site and search for push button latch, it will take you to the page with pictures and specs. I have used these on boat projects in the past and have been pleased with them.

i think it's more the point of 2008 beneteau's as older boats don't have this problem?

next time i'm on the boat will have a look at it in detail.

My husband is going to take apart a latch this weekend and do the cam thing that Hud3 recommended. If that doesn't do the trick, we're going to look into replacing them, and will check out lee valley tools. Thanks! It seems like many of us can benefit from finding a solution to this latch problem.

When you do, could you see if the photo I posted is the same as the latches on your boat?

pushing the button moves the striker, but it will not catch, did removing the cams stop that?

The cams might be preventing the striker from moving enough to catch. Try removing them and see what happens. If your catches are the same as mine, the cams add nothing to the function of the catch. I figure the original must have been designed by a committee.

Hi all,
Just registered since I have an 08 Bene 49 with two push button latches not working. This picture posted does not resemble those on board my vessel. I have taken them apart and find that there is a white grease as well. The button is chrome plated that is attached to a plastic block with a small nob that should articulate in a groove in a small white plastic block with two spring legs that hold the button closed or open...
I know, PICTURES.
Let me see what I can do about that as they are on my iPhone.
At any rate, I did attempt to take parts out as mentioned earlier to no avail. I will do my best to get pics soon as I get to a 3G area on my phone.
Also, the two latches that I am having intermittent failure with are the two I have used the most. One in the forward head and the one that works the closet where the dog food and treats live... so probably a poor design that wears out with moderate use. We may be traveling with a bag of spares afterall?

I am sorry to have led everyone astray with the photo that I posted last week. I was going by memory and selected the photo from an internet site that had photos of boat push latches. Anyway, the photos that gr8trn posted are the same as the latches on my boat. My husband took one apart this weekend and it looked the same, no cams. Very simple design (trying not to say "cheap"). It seems like there are many of us with the same problem. Wish there was a solution, but perhaps someone has another idea?

For now, I am going to stop opening and closing them as they seem to wear out. I will close them when I go sailing, otherwise they stay open and the dog can get her own doggone treats!

One of those cases where simpler is probably better (but not as flashy in the boat show).
