Go get yourself stuck in a storm for a few days with your nice boat and analyze the stresses on you and your boat and her equipment and then see if you still want to, or can, post about production boat verbage for people without skill $ets.

Horse puckie! First...not all production boats have fin keels and spade rudders. Second..."People shouldn't cruise in white plastic boats, period"? There is a glut of "plastic boats that would take anyone cruising. Here in La Paz I see plastic boats from 25ft. to 36 ft. that probably cost less than $20K. Not my cup of tea but it can still be done. Seeing these boats down here demonstrates to me that you could probably build a raft out of shipping crates, throw it in the water and eventual end up in Mexico. All this "Victory at sea" attitude is over the top. Careful planning and a little knowledge and elbow grease can put most people on the water cruising.

There are so many ... and of course we all recommend our own type of boat , because after all its the best. but if you ever consider a Baba 30 message me. We are selling ours after this trip. In Florida now but will be sailing her back up the coast to MD in April

Baba's are so beautiful... On the pricey side for an older boat but no doubt the quality is outstanding.

Yes for sure, many of us know what all those add ons cost and the owner here seems to not have spared any expense. A little wheeling and dealing and someones going to have an excellent go anywhere boat for a good price.

When it comes to buying an older boat I think it is wise to pay more attention to the individual boat than the manufacturer. Just as an example, my 1973 Morgan has been mine since 1985 and I've put much care and maintenance into it, replacing and refitting things numerous times over the years. It's given us about 75K easy miles and I expect many more; however, many far newer Morgan OI 41's that I've seen are suffering from neglect and near worthless. Each older boat has a history that can be far more important than the original production.

I sail a plastic jennie - had her out close-hauled against 50 knot winds for close to 27 hours straight. she took it with no problem.

Lots of good plastic boats.

mainsail tight on 3nd reef and jib on 2 reef.

We got beat to death - but the boat didn't have any problems with it

Actually if I remember correctly several people have done some pretty strange things with old plastic jugs rafted together, like crossing the Pacific, just for Sh#*s and giggles of course, but mainly to prove a point.
Not that I'd want to go that route....

The Vega was the top off my list for "next boat" unfortunately the stated 5'10'' headroom was slightly optimistic.
