Haul out yard in French Polynesia

Some day I'd like to head to the Pacific and am wondering if there are any yards in the South Pacific where they haul and store catamarans? Due to my business I really don't want to cruise for more than 4 months per year. I'd need a place to safely store Palarran on the hard for about 8 months.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks Gord,
I've sent e-mails to the three you listed. That was very helpful.

Apataki Carenage and Chantier Naval have replied that they can't haul a cat this size. Raiatea Carenage can. If anyone else has a suggestion for the South Pacific, please let me know.

Thanks Pete. From the photo on their web site I'd say they don't have the ability to haul a cat the size of mine. But thanks again.

Also, there are good options in New Caledonia for the next year after FP.

They can just do it present but a new cradle arriving in 2 weeks will handle it nicely. They will be hauling a 60' cat when it arrives. Maximum beam is around 9 metres.

Technimarine in Papeete, Tahiti can haul you. I don't know how long term they do storage.

Re: Haul out yard in French Polynesia

I've also been looking into a yard in the SP with good connections to LAX. While not in FP, Port Denarau Marina in Fiji is only a couple minutes to NAN with direct flights to the US. Appears they can now haul 50 tons, nice place too. This marina was under construction on my last trip thru there, so I can't help with storage/costs. Vuda Point Marina is another new (to me) marina, reasonably close to NAN. I'm thinking any marina in Fiji is going to be cheaper than FP! Please post up if you receive a response from either.

Hi Dave please take a look at port villa boat yard.
We take care of a 60 ft FP Eleuthera which is currently out of the water in our yard.
Regards, Justin

Re: Haul out yard in French Polynesia

Hi Palarran, I am in FP since 2012. My 46 aluminium catamaran is on the hard when I am not there. But it ways "only" 10 Tons so I have opportunities that you might not have. I have made a lot of experiences during the last two years (some good some very bad) which I can share with you - but not via the web.

Regarding your quetstion:

- Raiateacarenage can do all kinds of repair and the owner (Dominique) speaks fluent English. But they have no space to store your boat. You can haul out but have to go in afterwards again.

- Technimarine in Papeete. Same as above. Very good professional Yard for works, but not for storage

- There might be two Options: CHANTIER Naval des Iles Sous le Vent: www.cnislv.com . Email: cni@mail.pf .They lift up to 25 tons and 8ft draft. They have limited space but if you ask sufficently in advance, they might store your boat. Prices are not cheap but then, your boat is not either ;-)

- The last option is TNC. Contact Yvan, the Yard Manager: tnc.commercial@mail.pf I am not sure if they can haul out your boat but they might. I am there currently but have been other places as well.

Let me know if you need insights to FP, happy to help.

Stephan

Re: Haul out yard in French Polynesia

Thanks Stephan, when the time gets closer I will remember your offer. I also received an e-mail from Justin with this yard:
Vanuatu Yacht Services | Vanuatu Superyacht Agents | Vanuatu Yacht Consultants | Vanuatu Yacht Brokers, Vanuatu Yachting, Vanuatu Sailing, Vanuatu Yacht Charters, Vanuatu Superyacht, Vanuatu Adventures, Vanuatu Cultural Tours, Vanuatu Eco Tours, Vanu
He said they have an Eleuthera hauled right now so must be capable.

Re: Haul out yard in French Polynesia

Any time.

Remember that Vanuatu is 2400 nm from Tahiti, French Polynesia. It might be worth considering it as a storage place for your next stop after having hauled out in FP (unless both addresses I gave you do not work out).

Also make sure you follow the latest regulations for maximum stay allowed. It had been changing in FP in the last year to only 6 months (after which an importation of the boat becomes necessary) giving great concerns to many cruisers. Last I heared was that it was changed to 18 months but the law is reviewed and not finally decided as I understand. I have imported my boat so it does not matter for me.

Once taking Baju home to Europe, I will consider Vanuatu myself.

Best,
Stephan
