It's not bad. Its a mix of FSBO and broker listings. Just watch the dates on the ads. If you do a search, it has a bad habit of pulling up listings 4-5 years old along with ads posted just a few days ago.

Listings there are much more realistic price wise than on yachtworld for example. Found my boat there 5 years ago. At the time all sister boats in similar condition were at least 30-50% higher on YW. My surveyor joked at the time to use sailboatlistings' prices as a guide to buy and YW prices to insure.

Many of them are. Some, not so much. As mentioned, a lot of the boats on sailboatlistings are FSBOs, and it is not all that unusual to see a boat that has been re-listed, over a period of many years, with the price finally coming down to a realistic range.

www.sailboatlistings.com: any good ?

I have sold a sailboat on the site and was FSBO.. I am using it as one of the sites to search for another boat. I agree that the prices are more reasonable and in line with the actual values to slightly inflated to try and get the most money of course for their boat. I use a general 75% of the asking price as a place to start negotiations. All they can say is no. I think that some sellers still have a inflated opinion of what their boat is actually worth but the lack of interest usually helps to correct that over time. In my opinion though they are probably missing out on an actual sale if they were more reasonable to begin with. Any item is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. In the end it's a free site that I imagine makes money off premium listings an advertising.

Then there is SearchTempest: Search all of Craigslist nationwide & more which lets you search all craigslist and ebay. You can use a Key West zip code 33040 and start your search from there, if you dont live in the US

Craigslist is also a good place but one has to be quick to respond as good deals there go very quickly. Unless the boat is in rough shape, and many of them on c-list are.

Sorry for being a newb, but what is FSBO?

I drool over...ooops (inner monologue, thing) look over sailboatlistings all the time. I see good deals on there all the time, like that 1982 Cape Dory 28 with the upgraded interior and port lights.

I sold my Compac on sailboat listings. Did not have any complaints.

I've been recently surfing Boats for Sale - Buy Boats, Sell Boats, Boating Resources, Boat Dealers, Parts and Accessories - BoatTrader.com too.

Click on the link, click on "search for a boat".

There are several ways to do a search, but that will work.

Re: www.sailboatlistings.com: any good ?

I watched Sailboatlistings.com for about a year. Then I started trying to make contact via email. I sent out 15 to 20 emails and only got a couple of responses. Many times the listing was removed after I sent out the email. I ended up not visiting any boats based on Sailboatlistings.com.

I ended up targeting two brokers that listed on YactWorld. The prices were not different than Sailboatlistings.com. Plus, I was able to board eight boats at each brokers site. I spent one day at one broker and another day at another broker. With Sailboatllistings.com, I would have had to set up a viewing with each boat individually. I would have been lucky to have two viewings in one day.

Brokers worked better for me. I liked working with them quite a bit. To me, they earned their fee.
