- Born on an Island 500 miles from land. Circumnavigated the planet on my 38 foot island from Key West crossing the North Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, Red Sea, Arabian Sea, Laccadive Sea, Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, Malacca Straits, Java Sea, Flores Sea, Banda Sea, Timor Sea, Arafura Sea, Coral Sea, Solomon Sea, South Pacific Ocean, North Pacific Ocean, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico. 3 years 2 months and 16 days 33,427 NM total. Never took a formal sailing lesson/class, or sailed on another boat. When I stepped on my boat, it was the first sailboat I had ever been on in my 54 years on this planet. My circumnavigation began exactly 28 days after I purchased my Alajuela 38.
