Why do Vee Berths Exist?

V- berths exist for several reasons; more births sell boat, kids happen, people visit, and husbands snore. Seriously once you get accustom to them most sleep ok fir 1 adult. We slept. In our 25' for a year or two, but not very well.

If the boat is a tad bit bigger the Pullman configuration becomes possible. I am surprised how rare the forward Pullman berth is... For small boats, the V-berth is a natural fallback. My 3 year old loves the V-Berth

1/ That's why most preferred sleeping on the salon berths... Pheeew
2/ PITA shifting all that bedding if you get caught by a bad S&S Pork at 3am....

I personally have not seen a vee berth on a small boat in person, but when I see them in pictures, they don't look big enough to accommodate anyone beyond a child. If this is the case, why not use this space for stowage?

Since you have not seen one how could you understand? Actually on that boat it's a comfy place for an adult to sleep. Cruising boats try to create multiple places to sleep for multiple people -- including children, but in this case I have a friend who lives on that model and is 6'`". He sleeps quite comfortably in the vee birth with the addition of a little memory foam.

However, many reconfigure it for storage.

I always found this gross. I wont even consider a boat if it doesn't have an enclosed space for the head.

No boat ownership, in the usual sense...I lease a Twin Otter de Haviland float plane for remote SCUBA diving vacations; with 9 other buddies. When sailing, we charter a 45-50 ft ketch.

I suppose the vberth also maximizes potential tankage/storage given the space underneath and storage since space in a sailboat is an important resource

Ive spent weeks at a time with the v berth of a catalina 27 as my bunk. tons of room for one.the quarter berth of a catalina 27 is tighter. my 22 footer has a great v berth. it can hold 2 adults if they don't mind touching once in a while.
