Where's that video?

Someone recently posted a Utube video of a tanker taking out about 10 boats in their slips as he tried to back out of a channel. Can't find it.

Anyone remember it?

Re: Where's that video?

I'm glad my boat is in a cemented marina and the big boats would hit that before getting close to my boat!

Re: Where's that video?

Seems quite clear that the marina rats impeded the large vessel and are at fault here by ignoring rule 9B of colregs. They should have "just got out of the way" because, as stated very clearly in other threads by knowledgeable people, "the rule of tonnage" leads foremost in a collision avoidance situation. Clearly. Obviously.

colregs,
Rule 9 - Narrow Channels
(b) A vessel of less than 20 meters in length or a sailing vessel shall not impede the passage of a vessel which can safely navigate only within a narrow channel or fairway.

Wow.. if someone had been sleeping on their boat, they could have been killed. It would be interesting to know the aftermath of this.

Another thought I had was a live-aboard at work with their pet down below. Pets can't open the companionway.

Who makes the choice to just keep going?

Re: Where's that video?

I didn't even think of that, but that would be an issue as well. Maybe even more so, because they might not get crushed, but could drown if the boat started to sink, which seems likely for more than a few of those given the damage.

Seems like a huge lawsuit, although not being in the US, maybe its not as much of a risk? Could it possibly be that the didn't even realize it? Seems like the tug might have been doing most of the moving and certainly couldn't see that side. Didn't see anyone on deck either.

There were 2-3 guys on the stern at the beginning of the video watching everything.

I'm sure the company/insurance wrote a bunch of checks that made people drop it.
