Re: The changing face of cruising in the Med.

Not very effective IMO... needs 3 times the range and 3 times the fuel. In a pirate attack, the objective would need to set aflame all the way to the helmsman and include the "boarding party" in the "FIRE" zone.

WWII devices were very nasty!

I don't need to be investigated for such activity either... Like Michael Jackson said "I'm a lover, not a fighter"
Did you know.. a watermaker can be converted into a home-made version.. and non-volatile till it reaches the trigger spark at the nozzle...
And.. near impossible for the authorities to detect...

Re: The changing face of cruising in the Med.

We are currently sitting in Tunisia. My son, exusmc, is a bit concerned as I am after reading the resume of one of the attackers who went to college, had a good family environment and a good job but took an early lunch to go on the attack. As my son said it will not be the people we know but their friends or friends of friends. We had planned a 5 day camel crossing of the desert but that will probably go away now.

As for increased presence of the military we sailed over 3,000 miles last year from Sardinia to Corsica to Rome to Messina to Albania to Venice to Malta to Lampadusa to Tunisia and saw not one military vessel.

We also will not change our plans to sail Sicily to Albania to Greece and on to Turkey this summer.

The bareboat charter is concentrated in near shore areas of certain countries , most notably Croatia , Greece and Turkey. While a " spectacular " cannot be ruled out , these areas are not going to come within any danger areas of North Africa.

The med is like lots of places, large areas are perfectly safe , but there are a few dodgy alleys.

Its also a huge sea area, plenty of space

The main concern for European agencies is the ongoing threat of illegal immigration and that it could be used to smuggle in ISIL or other mall-contents

However to date home grown radical Islam , is more of a problem. Hard to protect your citizens from your citizens

Unless you did your travels in the last 4 months, you would not have seen the increase military presence in the Eastern Med.

Dont take my word for it....... Google is your friend.
