Strictly Sail Pacific is going on for the next 3 days in Oakland. Today was the first. Did anyone attend? I plan on going on Sunday.

We went yesterday and are going again today. Not very many good deals. So far we bought a sos Dan buoy... Defender sells it for $300 we paid $240. We are also shopping water makers. The solar guys are all really funny. Semi flexible 100w solar panels for $1000ea when I can get cheaper versions for $200-300 ea. If they don't last 5 years I can replace them then with newer tech.

Re: Strictly Sail Pacific

Yeah, I'm having a great time meeting folks and visiting friends, going to seminars, and picking people's brains. i haven't bought too much but one big purchase was a CPT autopilot. They gave me a good boat show discount and came to our boat to measure the pedestal/guard and figure out how it would fit. Good folks to deal with and a nice family. Scanmar who makes monitor windvanes has a great booth and Hans is there. He has just sold the business to a nice couple and they are at the booth introducing theirselves and taking orders. Schaefer hardware and Garhauer, especially, have a big selection of beautiful hardware out.

West Marine is missing, which is interesting since they are a sponsor. Svenson's is well represented.

If you go and want lunch, I recommend the Caribbean rice bowl from the stand out on the grass. Really good and healthy too.

We were not impressed with the seminars, but will try again today. It seemed that the purpose of the seminars was to sell u something and outside of that had little value

After spending a full day at the event we came away from it disappointed. Deals were few and far between.

I thought they looked really good myself until I got home, checked them out on line and found, like you did, $10.00 a watt. Wow, a little steep.

I was a bit disappointed, also. It seemed that most manufacturers don't bother to show up and go through the effort to display their products. There were exceptions of course, but really, you could see everything in a couple of hours. The San Francisco Bay is a hotbed of sailing and this is what we get? Lame.

That is why we did not make the trip this year.

Re: Strictly Sail Pacific

The best part was meeting Brian Toss. The guy really knows his stuff. Got a few sail quotes with a show discount. Had a good time but was a smaller show than normal.
