It's times like those that you describe that I miss smoking. I used to, many years ago, be able to pull out my pipe and cogitate.

Many years ago I cut down a tree using my Jonsered chainsaw only to end up with a leaner (widowmaker) when it fell slightly off course.

I went indoors and looked up in the chainsaw owners manual on what to do when this sort of situation occurs. It read: "Make yourself a cup of coffee, then consider your next move."

The manual never said what to actually do other than "make yourself a cup of coffee."

Not sure how common this name is , but it cracked me up as I had never seen it before!

Hi Ken, I will not be there in the next 6 days, but if needed you have a very well protected mooring in Port Miseno, 6 miles from where you are now. I will be in Rome for the 14th of July. In what marina do you have your ICC test?

I arrived in Porto di Roma in three hours. The test official just sent me another note saying the test won't take long. Looking forward to taking a berth near Sully, Joey and their kids on Crackerjack for an evening.

It's not often I get to park next to another Oyster 53 and compare sories.

10 years ago I cut through a small tree and it levitated 3" and stayed there. Vines tangled in the top picked it straight up off the stump.

Simple enough but I was astounded for a moment. I took one step back, allowed the chainsaw to cut through my insulated coveralls, jeans and barely scratch the skin on my right knee.

Yep, I always wear the Kevlar chaps and work helmet with the face shield, just for those occasions. One pair of my chaps has a decent sized slice taken out of it.

Good tactic! At sea, heaving-to and having a hot mug is similarly useful. Can change your whole perspective.
