luckily this combo doesn't happen on boats that often, esp knowing that most of you are over 60

Re: Sailor Abandons Boat off Florida coast

Why would you say most of us are over 60? Did someone tell on us?

Mates, some of us are gitten keelhauled here. Not sure why. Gonna take off me Tilley, an scratch me head... Nah, still don't know why.

Capn Surry and a few others seem to have more info than the rest of us do and/or are projecting the hell out of this tale of daring-don't.

Sailors favor sailor hats to ball caps b/c the brim all round protects one's ears. A booney hat is just as good as my birthday gift $70 Tilley that I wear to the yot club. I have a commodore hat too that looks better with me blazer and white pants, but, like I said, it doesn't cover me ears.

Here's a story about another guy who set out in a boat totally unprepared. It really makes for a far better read.

Desperate Voyage: John Caldwell: 9780924486203: Amazon.com: Books

Still makes me blink disbelievingly when you can get a new book for $9, used from $0.01, and the electronic Kindle download is $10.49

And our public library gives them away! You do have to return them though.

John Caldwell would have loved to have a grapefruit and some water.

Re: Sailor Abandons Boat off Florida coast

lets be honest, the guy is a bit of a bum, nothing wrong with that, I was a bit of beach bum back in 1985 when I 1st came to Spain......BUT, when you decide to hit the water the way this clown did its a different story, he was clearly not ready & not prepared, its people like this who dont just put themselves in dange but often others who come to the rescue! I still think some sort of licence for above sailing dingy size should be required before you go sailing!

It happens every year...at least on the East coast of South Florida...every year!

Yeah, getting a license removes stupidity all the time. Look at the amount of auto accidents. I don't desire more bureaucracy in my life.

Oh shoot. ..then there were two last year..remember the one about the 83 something "Frank" and 60 something pal "Jerry"plus a little dog took off out of Ft.Pierce allegedly heading on a Carribean adventure and ran aground up by Sebastian....well , they said they abandoned her when she found herself in the surf line and she ran aground..no reports of any prayers to any dieties....reportedly Frank fell a sleep at the helm and Jerry was asleep down below, and neither knew where they were at the time ...that happened in 2012...crazy stuff on the East Florida coast. Frank, Jerryand dog okay. ..vessel and liability issues remain unknown to date...but costs of removing the 36 foot s/v must have been pricey.

Don't have to return them at my library, it disappears off your e-reader after 21 days.

There is a lot of thread drift here but I do want to reiterate that Desparate Voyage is a good book and shows what lengths a man will go to be with his spouse. A true story of journey and survival in heroic proportions.

Very much unlike the fellow in the news article that started this thread.

regards,
