Re: How did you choose your boat name?

My sailboat was made from a Navy lifeboat so i wanted an authentic military style name. After going through all the obvious names , enterprise, discovery and such i couldnt use a name so well known. Being a long time star trek fan i searched a Klingon ship registry and found the "Kl Sarza" a D16 destroyer class battleship. The english translation of "Kl Sarza" is "swift wind". Good enough for me.

Re: How did you choose your boat name?

This is actually the first boat that I've (re)named, in the past I kept the names because they were unique enough for me but when we purchased our current boat I was not about to keep "Molly Brown" as the name! As we love being at the boat and never want the weekend to end we thought it appropriate that we name our boat "Never Monday" , we also named the dinghy "TGIF"!

Used the colour scheme. Yellow hull and creamy top therefore "Lemon Meringue".

Re: How did you choose your boat name?

I would like to say I spent a much of time pondering what name my latest boat. But. no. It was as simple as the last thing that went through my mind as I wrote the check. Lunacy seem to express the moment. After several boats it just fit. S/V Lunacy

Re: How did you choose your boat name?

My partner and I met and made love in the open under a full moon. We both just love the Dylan word picture." To dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free," so our boat is named Moondancer. There may be a million boats using that name, but for us it is special anyway. . . .

Re: How did you choose your boat name?

Boat is still unnamed, but the previous owner called her Argo II. I love the mythological story behind the hunt for the Golden Fleece, and it fits well in an allegorical sense to my own journey. What do ya'll think about dropping the "II"? Does it count as changing the name?

Re: How did you choose your boat name?

First boat (a ski-boat) i bought from an Argentinian and i kept the name "Gaucho"

Second was hull #1 of the Beneteau Oceanis 400 (virtually new) which had a temporary name as "Anonymous" bec the Beneteau guys could not think of a good name. Registered and named her "Adonis Blue"which is a butterfly. Spi looks fantastic with a 5 metre (16ft) wide butterfly on it that can be seen for miles.

Third, and current, is a Jeanneau 43ds which was "Mary Bee" with a rather primitive looking bug alongside the name which i did not like but being sensitive to making a name change i only changed part of it. Now called "Genial Bee" and has a much better logo.

On the subject of toys i pulled into a greek port many years ago and there was a beautiful 20 metre (80 ft) sailing boat. On the transom was some small lettering so i got out my bins to see that it read: "The only difference between the men and the boys is the size of their toys" !

Newhaul, that is a beautiful name for a boat and a nice tribute. You have my condolences for your loss.
