Re: How did you choose your boat name?

Do you get tired of explaining it? What do people call your boat if they can't remember the name?

My partner wanted to name it something like "S/V Couldn't Wait" to depict my complete impatience when it came to buying a boat. He also suggested something like "Retired on duty", which is just way to generic.

Did you name your boat something original? Or did you try to be different?
To return to your original question, you might consider something like "Halcyon" (look it up for meaning, but it is of Greek mythology). As to the renaming part, be very cautious. John Vigor has a whole book on proper renaming ceremony. Look it up too.

Because "Bottom Job" was too vulgar and "Rest and Vest" wouldn't have helped me at the startup I was working at.

Seriously. Does it get more perfect than that?
Staying with your proudly gay name search and yet something nautical , .....
.... reading these instructions might give you a laugh and the name.

Context is everything!... Good luck with the search.

Re: How did you choose your boat name?

When my wife and I achieved our dream some 9 years ago here is Oz we considered naming our 50' ferro Hartley "Dream" - something. However, we decided we needed something more specific. One morning over coffee my wife said to me, "We're both ex-pat Englanders (Poms in Oz-speak) and live on a concrete boat. What about PommyGranite?" and that is what she is named!

Re: How did you choose your boat name?

A close friend retired some years ago. She was not well treated by the company but had been smart with her money. A favorite response to complainers was 'living well is the best revenge'. My boat name honors her.
Previous boats (Lightning, Coronado 25) were Entropy and Entropy II

A motor-sailor gin palace moored alongside us in the south of France in the late 70's was named S.Y.Philis

Boat: Looking for my next boat!

Re: How did you choose your boat name?

I foolishly told my kids (ages 4 and 6) they could choose the name, but they had to see the boat first. Of course the day I got the boat back to Kingston, they wanted to see it right away. It was still at the service dock, where I had arrived. It was blowing hard that day, and quite bumpy at the dock.

So after inspecting the boat, they named it Wavy. But since they could not spell, I made it Wavey, after a character in The Shipping News.

At least it wasn't Rainbow Unicorn Pokemon !
