The Youtube channel is in the works. I think you can subscribe to it already. Just go to Youtube.com and search for "Low Budget Sailor"! I've lined up interviews and behind the scenes footage of one of the best boat painters in New England, and a great sailmaker who will talk about everything from buying new sails to maintaining the ones you already have.

That sounds great. I like this thread a lot. I’ve found craigslist to really be the only place for buying or selling this sort of thing. Everything else costs money or is outdated. I actually tried posting some motors in the classifieds here- 100 something views, no bites. Craigslist wins again, despite the scam attempts and flakes, it’s where thrift masters meet.

Yeah!!! I think the problem that sellers with older boats are having.... or at least part of the problem, is that everyone wants a wheel steer and sleek rudder set ups. I feel like these great deals and beautiful boats with tillers get passed by for that reason. When I was about 16, I was at my fathers boat doing some work on it. A neighbor from a few slips down was out for a sail and had slipped on deck, hurting his shoulder. He had managed to get to the marina, but couldnt manage the throttle and tiller to get in the slip. I had never run a set up like this before and was amazed at how the boat, when you cranked the rudder all the way to one side, would spin in a super tight circle. I got his boat into the slip with no problems. Everything has it's good and bad points, but the bad points on a transom hung rudder are few!

Re: FREE, or close to free!

Includes a mooring?!?! The ad sort of reads that way, but contact the seller because at $1000 this could be one of the best deals I've seen!!! It's like hitting "free parking" in Monopoly every time!

Stand by, let me see if the guy still has one he was trying to get rid of. The only way I would get something that big is if I was just going to live in it like an apt on the water outside SD or something.

I cannot even imagine what rigging and sails and winches cost compared to my 29 footer.

Re: FREE, or close to free!

That's why I'm in the free or close to free thread! I can afford to keep one and maintain it and insure it...even bring it back from the brink a good bit...but I can't do that and pay an arm and a leg for one. My previous boat was a 60 footer and I didn't think it was all that bad to keep and maintain. Lots of work but I was able to do it all myself. Maybe once the rug rats all finish college and I retire I'll be able to do both. I love big sail boats.

Do any of you go to or plan to go to the Newport boat show this year? I'll be there possibly two days if anyone wants to meet up and grab a beer.

Re: FREE, or close to free!

Part of the problem- this article showed up in my feed. An example of an irresponsible cheap boat buyer who is costing himself and taxpayers $$$, and giving us thrift masters a bad name.

“His time was up on Friday, June 15.

Lisi, 42, could not be reached for comment Monday.

He previously told the South Florida Sun Sentinel he bought the boat for $1,500 the week before it ran aground.

“You can’t sail it because all the lines are dry rotted,” he said at the time. And the motor hadn’t been run in 10 years.

So Lisi was using a new motor to get the boat from Fort Lauderdale to Key West, but it conked out on April 26. Lisi swam to shore, leaving the boat on its own.

Five days later the anchor line broke. That’s when the boat ran aground near Harding Street.

“It’s a tourist attraction now I guess,” said longtime resident Carl Ignacuinos. “But if a bad hurricane comes that thing could send that thing further inland off the beach.”

Resident Ann Ralston found the whole thing amusing — except for the part about the taxpayers picking up the tab.”

The full text of the article is here http://www.sun-sentinel.com/local/br...story,amp.html

I posted it here b/c I know it will resonate with the people following this thread.

Re: FREE, or close to free!

" The owner says he plans to try to raise money to get the boat removed from the beach before his deadline. "

Another GoFundMe scumbag
