Deep Fryer Installation

I have a deep fryer on my boat and it is a luxury fit for for a king... or a huge celebrity, like Bill Murray.

I know that by posting this on this public forum that I'm revealing the true massiveness of my wealth. It may become dangerous for me to visit these poor countries who cook over open flames like savages.

Think about that and plan this install accordingly, perhaps install it in the second galley, away from plain view. That's what I did and I'm right.

I'm new here but I'm surprised no one has yet asked the two most important questions. Is it a cat or a monohull? And is it galley up or galley down? Makes a huge difference when it comes to the proper way to install a deep fryer on a boat.

Also, for those who tell you that it's a fire hazard to have a deep fryer on a boat tell them to relax. Contrary to popular belief, a boat is the perfect environment for a deep fryer as you are surrounded by water.

I've done som deep frying on a boat (mono hull) while sailing, thou never told the skipper before it was ready to be served. Like the idea of having an installed fryer (kimballed of course) instead of a cook top pan.

After considerable thought, I would use Lard as your cooking medium. Not only do the fries taste better, it hardens when cooled down. A great place for stashing your illicit goods in.

that's what started the "Indian Mutiny",so make sure it is vegtable fat if visiting muslim countries with your colt

The 1857 Indian Mutiny against the Englanders? No, that was beef tallow and it was offensive to the sepoys, who were largely Hindu.

Muslims and Jews would be offended by pork lard, but not beef tallow if it were produced by halal/kosher means.

1. with the exception of a couple, all vegetable lipids are liquid at room temperature. That's why we call them 'oils' and not 'fats'. And most vegetable oils are too light at summer temperatures in India (and tend to go rancid quickly). Mammals are warm-blooded, so the lipids stored inside their bodies have to be liquid or semi-solid (e.g. kidney fat) at body temperature, but not too liquid. So mammal lipids are usually solid at room temperature. 'Tis why we call them 'fats'.

2. The people making the sepoys use packaged rifle rounds and charges sealed with beef tallow were Englanders - you know, the folks who hold the world record for invading other people's countries and disregarding their cultures, religious practices etc (of the 170 or so nations on the planet, Englanders have only failed to invade 22).

3. A French scientist invented the first margarine around 1870 (at the request of Napoleon 3), too late to be used for sealing rifle rounds and charges in 1856-57. Not that the Englanders would have cared to follow a French example. Industrial hydrogenation of vegetable oil came even later.
