Re: Case for Ipad mini

We use LifeProof Nuud cases for our iPad Air and iPad Mini. It is waterproof and shockproof to 2 meters. Best of all, it leaves the screen bare, so you are working on the actual screen and not a membrane over it.

They both have optional screen covers with magnets that turn the ipad off when closed. This covers works very well with the mini. The Air version of it sucks big time - a total waste of money.

Re: Case for Ipad mini

Other than incidental raindrops, no, we haven't tested the waterproofing yet. However, the case comes with an iPad "blank" that you put in the case and submerge it for 30min to test waterproofness. This has always worked perfectly for us.

Re: Case for Ipad mini

We have Lifeproof Fre cases for our Ipad Minis.

A bit more protection with a membrane over the screen, but the usual negatives: some distortion, difficult to tap near edge of screen.

I have used it everyday for a year now including in heavy rain without a problem, never taken it out of the case since I put it in.

Cheers,
JM.

Re: Case for Ipad mini

does the case allow you to keep it constantly charged. I was thinking i could use the new ipad plus with charts, the waterproof cover and plugged into a charger as a "supplement" to my old and too small 80e ray marine chartplotter. I wonder if there is an app to connect the ipad to the NEMA or other interface, instead of buying a 1200 buck new chartplotter that will require me to buy a new radar as well.

Re: Case for Ipad mini

As someone who has had the opportunity to put LifeProof cases to the test, I can say that yes, they are waterproof. Maintaining a constant charg should in no way be hindered by the case itself.

To plug the lightening connected to the iPad, you will be forced to open the seal on the case. You could rig up something to cover that section during charging though.

Thanks for the info Mark, why does the cover suck big time for the Air?

It doesn't fit the case well, the magnets are in the wrong position to trigger the iPad functionality, it is very heavy and it constantly flops open (because it doesn't fit the case well and the magnets are in the wrong place).

It sucks big time and is a complete waste of money. I thought mine was a mistake and contacted Lifeproof about it. They sent me another free and it is exactly the same. Searching online, I see absolutely everyone has these complaints about it.

The mini cover works perfectly, though.

Re: Case for Ipad mini

I use the Lifeproof in the cockpit at the helm when traveling, I have a 12v plug there and a 6 foot cord to the pad mounted with a Ram Mount at the wheel. If its raining I don't plug it in. Power is good for quite a while with everyhing but Navionics off. When I am not travelling for a while, I take it out and use a case with a keyboard, not waterproof, not very shock proof, but provides some protection and is great for typing!
