Broker's Missrepresentation

I recently flew from Orlando, Florida, to Nassau, in the Bahamas, to look at a “55’ custom schooner,” which is supposed to be 14’ beam. The boat is on Yachtworld, but this turned out to be a bit of an exaggeration, and I want to alert anyone who might be considering traveling to see this boat.

The actual length is 41’ on deck, (stem to stern) and 12’ beam, (even including toe-rail overhang). It has a longer than normal bowsprit, but even including this the overall length is only 49’6”. No way is this a 55 foot sailboat, and nowhere near the volume a 14’ beam gives.

I immediately advised the listing brokers, who said they had not even seen it and had faithfully published the owner-supplied information. I suggested they ask the marina to measure it if they didn’t believe me.

Anyone can make mistakes, but to date they have not altered either their YW listing, or that on their own website. The regular and more accurate description would be a 41’ x 12' schooner—some difference!

If anyone would like the details on the vessel and/or the listing broker, send me a PM letting me know.
