Storm is over :-) we have about 20-40 knots of wind ( feels dead calm :-) ) and no rain. We won't be able to check on Rain Dog today but hopefully tomorrow.
Paxfish- I think Andros is fine.
Boatguy30-these houses are well built, bahamas isn't a third world country :-). Our hotel used to be a bank. Last night we gathered up all the guests (9) and form a plan if the rooms were no longer safe. Down stairs us a room they call the bunker, carved right out of the island and on high ground. Bahamians are pretty savvy about storms and house construction :-).

From what I read they are more out of contact with them and do not 'expect something terrible happened' (beside being out of power and some water getting into the ship what they have under control) ...

But also two smaller vessels are missing: Two boats overdue to return to Green Cay, Exuma | The Tribune

Brian and Erika, posted on your blog page my hopes. Let us know soon how the boat weathered this Cat 4. The hurricane I was involved with in Agana Guam in 1970 was 160 mph. It sounded like a hundred women outside the door shrieking at the top of their lungs. The cement block housing for naval personnel vibrated from the pressure of the wind.

Can you share with us what you experienced at the hotel?

I believe Georgetown was well outside the max winds. Would be curious to hear about how many boats went to redshanks vs. moorings. Redshanks is certainly a good place in winter storms but still has a lot of fetch in hurricane conditions.

From the satellite loop, it looks like the eye finally started moving away from the islands as of 6 am EDT. They sure have had a heck of a pounding from this one.

Glad to hear that Erika and Brian are safe, and hoping to hear that Canibul is OK, as well.

There where four of us in red shanks. Hole 0 and 1 where full, and there where 6-8 boats at Litterbox. All of these boats came through fine. There where a number of boats more out in the bay. Almost all of these dragged. I personally know of one that sank and one that went ashore. I heard two more were lost, but have not seen these. I know personally of 4 boats that dragged but where not seriously damaged. One boat came back to find their bower and windlass gone entirely.

My best guess is winds here where cat 1. During the storm the airport reported 70 gusting to 90 according to weather underground. They were from the north or northwest throughout. At the very end from the west.

Glad it worked out. The lumpy soft sand in the main bay is not the best holding. I have never anchored in Redshanks but visited by dingy. Would be interested to hear what anchors worked etc, if you get a chance. I carried full "hurricane" tackle on my 35' mono hull but on my 43' ketch and 34' cat I've adopted the policy of being out of cyclone areas.

Surprised to hear hole 0 was full. Would not have thought there would be that many boats that could get in. We anchored there a few nights in Feb, but some of the homeowners had Elvis kick us out. Best nights sleep the whole winter!
