Re: $3,000 / Month Cruising Budget Planned

I thought being a genuine real life cruiser bum meant hanging around all day in my birthday suit, working on my all over tan and not worrying about a damn thing or what other people think?

D'oh!

3% of $442,000 is $13,260 which is $1105 per month - assuming there are no taxes. Uncle Sam likes to ensure that ALL US citizens pay taxes on their worldwide income so you'll have to take that into account. At the very least, your math is terrible.

Yea, you are right. You only talk of true facts when it is your opinion that they are true facts.

Of course just like everything else there are variables, and to get an idea as to cost you need a representative sample, they more samples of course the more likely the costs can be averaged to one that makes sense, just like all costs, one sample may not be very representative.
And of course, an average in many contexts is meaningless. I doubt that any one actually spends "the average" on maintaining their boat

All you can say is that you will probably spend either considerably more or considerably less than the average depending on circumstances and your skills.

Nah Ken. That's just a Wannabe Cruiser. Real Cruisers are the ones who remove all the cardboard packaging from their purchases at the cash register before packing them .

Or....Real Cruisers are the ones that you see Jerry Jugging diesel fuel around town in a wheeled cart to save $0.46/gallon at the fuel dock...

Been there, done that. 1000 liters... Even in a rented car, what a PITA. Never again.

Re: $3,000 / Month Cruising Budget Planned

How much depends on where. In the south Pacific you would struggle to reach your budget. 2013 we did New Caledonia and Vanuatu April to November. Once you leave the major centers, there's just no where to spend lots of money. We struggled to spend 1200 per month. We spent a month at the island of pines and spent less than 250.

Great definition - but might be a little chilly up here in the nordic countries

Oh crap.
I thought real cruisers were the families in the Palma marina who wore the same type shirt with the name of their boat on it. And rank was designated by the hats with titles.

Gonna have to rethink this through...

I resemble this remark

Actually we have several polo shirts with our boat name on them (gives a nice appearance when clearing in). No titles and no hats/caps etc with titles

Wouldn't matter if we did, both of us know who the boss is

When we bought our current boat she had towels in the head with our boat's name beautifully embroidered in them. Luckily the previous owners wanted to keep them ... whew .

But come to think of it, my partner and I do have matching sou'westers. Does that make me a cruiser .?

NO!
You fail without the aforementioned hats.
