Two piracy/boardings in Grenada to Trinidad Passage

There have been reports of two separate boardings of yachts doing the standard passage between Grenada and Trinidad.

First boarding:
https://www.safetyandsecuritynet.com/3245-2/

Second Boarding:
https://www.safetyandsecuritynet.com/3305-2/

The description of the boat is identical. Given that the pirates spoke Spanish and had extra fuel, my guess is that Venezuelan pirates are getting bolder and going for yachts outside the usual red zone between Trinidad and Venezuela. The area of the boardings is just 50nm off the Venezuelan coastline.

It seems the safer alternative for this passage would be to head east towards tobago and beat the waves/wind for a while to get away from the Venezuelan coast.
