Travel time

Have 42' cutter. Motors at 7 knots. Knowing it is about 1,500 mikes from top of Bahamas to Grenada that's 21 days travel time assuming constant headway
Knowing that weather etc will slow things down, what's a reasonable estimate for total time to allow. Granted it still may not happen, I too have waited days for weather but figure someone who's done it has a better idea of what is reasonable
I planned to triple it to 60 days one way. Am I still too optimistic especially re Mona Passage wait time?

Re: Travel time

60 days is fine if you plan on stopping along the way. The Mona is not that big a deal really.
BTW, 1500 miles is 9 days travel time moving constantly at 7 knots.
Much of it is island hopping in the daytime, and the rest is overnight at the longest.
Once you get to Puerto Rico you are on the lee side of the islands often.

Re: Travel time

We did St. Thomas to Grenada in 2 weeks, with a few stops. Really depends on how much you want to do and see vs. how many overnights you want to do.

Re: Travel time

Cheechako

Agreed re 9 days at 24/7 but figured 10 hour days , stop for evening and resume. No fear of night sailing but passage didnt seem to lend itself to night sails in Bahamas at least
That said more interested in your Mona Passage take. Van Sant seems to make a big deal of it! Seems to be the hardest part and engenders the most possible delay waiting for weather.
Guidance please and thanks!
