Snake River Plantation Key

Situation:

Home Port: Sarasota
Boat: 47' Catamaran - 4'5" Draft - 73' Mast - 24' Beam
going from Home Port to Maimi/Bahamas

When I go through the Keys to Maimi or Bahamas I would go around Key West and up Hawks Channel and avoid Florida Bay because I can not get under the bridges on the Bay route.

I noticed Snake River has a bascule bridge so my mast can get through there. There are some 4' depths shown on the charts at the entrance and exit.

Anyone familiar with the area and pros and cons going this way other than I have to follow the markers all the way through Florida Bay?

Thanks,

Shawn

i read about a power line that had been strung across snake creek. but that was a few years ago .. it may have been removed.

I do see overhead lines on my chart but no height. My guess is I cannot get under them but would welcome being wrong.

A few years ago there was a big controversy about the power cables as they were strung without notifying the Coast Guard and they did not appear on the then current charts. If memory serves, the cables are/were 55' above high water. While I believe that is still the case, you might want to check with the Coast Guard in Key West for confirmatin.

Good Luck!

Call Snake Creek Marina and ask them. I see no cables on my chart.
