Re: boot key moorings - full?

Dennis, At times they are full and then a weather window opens up, several boats head for the Bahamas and then it might fill up again, if there is a long period of sloppy weather. You won't really know until you get there since they are first come first serve and they don't take reservations. If you are in Titusville, it will take you a while to get down there so if it is full or not today might not apply when you arrive. Chuck

The "Snowbird Rookeries" do tend to get crowded. Most of what we value about live aboard cruising keeps us away from these places.

Re: Boot Key Moorings - Full?

They've just raised the rates there--the dinghy dock went up 69% to $22 per day, which I believe is the same as the daily rate on a mooring, which includes the dinghy dock. So don't plan on saving anything by anchoring out, unless you don't go ashore. The boating community in Boot Key Harbor is definitely POed. A group of folks who want to protest the new fees is meeting Friday February 10, 11:15 am in the Marathon City Marina TiKi Hut.

Short notice meeting happening 3/19/12 @ 9am marathon city building. This has taken us all by surprise in the Boot Key Harbor area. Please read the attached link for the ordinance. Send off to all that may be of concern.

Re: Boot Key Moorings - Full ?

I have been informed that the anchoring ordinance has been removed from the agenda of that meeting on Monday the 19th. If you want to confirm I would check with Monroe County, but my information is from someone involved in working on these ordinances.

However, I am told that NOW is the time to submit your comments on these proposed ordinances in order to have the cruising community represented: Jones-Rich@MonroeCounty-Fl.Gov
