Don't overthink the local summer weather , the vast majority of the time , lack of wind is the problem, when you anchor just ensure you are well dug in, and have room to swing, mostly you will not receive advance warning of boras ( I find most people call everything in Croatia a bora ) .

Listen to the locals, I was there for two weeks and we never had any strong winds , then one night was tied up at a little quayside , the harbour master said " bora tonight", sure I thought. , at 10pm the ensign started fluttering and 10;10 pm we were heeled over by the wind !!

I'm sitting at ACI Dubrovnik right now enjoying a nice cafe americano. The internet at the marina sucks. Arrived yesterday and cleared in at Cavtat. It was ok but very expensive. 400 euro for a 30 day vignet. We are heading out this afternoon to enjoy the islands and I'll try to post a few comments in a week from Trogir. Very pleased with the Croat's right now.

I will look for her. I'm thinking of heading to Sipan this afternoon, then Lastovo, Vela Luka, Vis, and Trogir. We have family coming in there and will work our way back to Dubrovnik. Then to Montenegro for 3 days then back to the Ionians.

We got pretty hammered on the way here from Corfu. 25 knot winds straight on the nose off the coast of Albania. My family all got sea sick so I had a nice 24 hour watch. Man did I sleep last night!! I just hope we get the same winds on the way back as that would make for a nice fast return to Corfu.

Last December my brother in law and my nephews took a fast track catamaran course in the bvi, 101, 103, 104. Beginner to coastal cruising in a week.
They booked a trip to Croatia a couple of months back.
Me what did you charter?

Chartered there a couple of years ago, hit trogir, Milna Korcula and split, that's all I can remember. Sailing from Split sat 29 th. Hope to see some of you

Interesting. I offered my ASA Certificate of Competency to the Port Authority and they didn't want it. It must be a requirement if you are chartering but not if you own your own boat.

Take the word sailing out of your mind. We haven't seen a lick of wind in a week. It's also hot here. Like passing out hot. I'm tied up at Hvar right now. Pretty town but I can't afford to use marinas or town docks anymore. $425 for one night in ACI Dubrovnick and it should be about $300 here in Hvar. There really isn't any need anyway. There is good holding in protected bays all over here. That is probably the biggest difference that I've seen so far between Croatia and anywhere else in the Med. Lots of protected bays to anchor in.

In Lastovo they charge 25 kuna ($5) per person for anchoring.

Hey there, Wow no wonder we kept out of Marina's in waters adjacent to Split and North to Pula there are innumerable bays to anchor in and at no charge, whoever there are haul-out lines they want money and Cats are double the money....

Always they will say 'it's the government'. As i said before in this thread other than Quaysides/Marinas we never handed over any money always preferring the anchor.

Don't miss Milna, Starigrad, Dugi Otok And if you go north with children on board check out Funtana and Pag.... A cruise up to Skradin to see the falls and anchor free adjacent to the Marina, it's almost fresh water. Check your mast height for bridges to KRK.

Beware Kakan Bay (north of Split). This beautiful anchorage - have used frequently over 5 years - is now completely full of buoys !

In April we managed to squeeze our anchor in last remaining free space between the buoys - only yacht in the bay - and they still charged us 300kn.
In May we dropped the hook just for lunch - they still came over and tried to charge us by the hour !! We left.
I'm all for a restaurant to run a few paid buoys - but this is over the top.

Thanks for the info, we will be starting in Dubrovnic and spending a few months between there and Trigor. Keep us updated on any nice anchorages or must see places Palarran. We will be avoiding marinas till October when we look for somewhere to haul out. How hot is it mate? its been pretty windless and around 28 degrees here in Elba for the last week, beautiful place with lots of nice anchorages as well.
Sounds liek I will need to break out the shade cloth soon.
Also, we will be having some crew on and off in Croatia, do you need to fill out a new crew list each time, or can you let them know dates and crew details with the initial crew list? I understand you can have twice the number of berths plus 30%, s for a yacht sleeping 8, that would be a maximum of 18 crew over the year.
Also, how did you go about clearing out of Italy and into Croatia? Is it a simple enough procedure? We will probably head to Montenegro on the way to reset the 18 month VAT clock as well.

Not sure how it resets the clock? Croatia only require from you. Boat registration, insurance, money but not in that order, they are very easy to deal with.
But when you go into any Marina THEY hold your ships documents origionals only...
