AGM & LEAD ACID

Hi fellow yachties,
would it be OK to put Lead Acid batteries in the same parallel line with AGM batteries?

No, different charge voltages, although I believe some will say it's OK. In my opinion it's not.

Pilot is correct the rate of charge on AGM's and Wet cells are different, as well as voltage. Time at charge would also be different. We use ONLY AGM's, we also use then tipped on their sides in some applications, Cannot do that with wet cells

I've seen replies that it's OK to use a flooded battery as a start bank, while the house is AGM, but so far as mixing types in the same bank, I wouldn't. But then I'd only mix in new batteries into an existing bank if I had to as I believe you'll quickly age the new batteries until they equal the old ones if that makes sense.

I have four AGM's as my house bank and a single wet cell as a reserve. I have Blueseas ACR that takes care of charging to the reserve. So far, about 16 months, it seems ok.
