Re: A way To Save Charging Time

Come join us in the Adriatic, there's a group of us who explore the same areas. People come and go, but we always seem to meet up again and share good times. Only a few are members of CF, most we meet along the way, people of all nationalities. Last evening I got together with a fellow from the Czech Republic who is fluent in more than 12 languages; it's always interesting.

Sounds good, in fact exactly what we seek to do! I am slowly looking for the "next" boat.

Re: A way To Save Charging Time

Looks like the Solbian company did an excellent job on the installation of 450w of solar, although you won't be able to see it from the water if you pull up next to us in the anchorage. Applied with zippers then covered by matching colored zelcro flaps.

Expecting delivery Friday or monday.

The shading issue will be handled by positioning the boom off to the side to be used with a flopper stopper.

Let me know how the flopper stopper works out, where did you get it etc. if you don't mind. I had assumed two were needed, one on each side

Re: A way To Save Charging Time

I purchased two of the Magma Rock n Roll flopper stoppers per the factory technician's recommendation. One to deploy off either the spinnaker pole or the boom at a 90 degree angle to the hull, then he recommended a second to deploy off the second bow roller. One to counter side to side roll and another for front to back up and down.

I'll know more in two weeks when we're finally in anchorages. I have each of them prepped to be set up in around three to four minutes, maybe only 2 minutes for the bow roller.

Purchased at West Marine via the online store and shipped to store for free delivery.

A way To Save Charging Time

I'd be interested in hearing how effective they are, although in truth in three years I have only once been in a rolly anchorage, and that was due to being just too tired to do the extra 30 min and navigate through the shallows to get to the known good anchorage, but my experience in 99% the west coast of Fl., that is fixing to change, so my interest in whether flopper stoppers are effective and worth it or not.
I figure there has to be a lot more rolly anchorages than I have experienced

That's exactly what we did with our Lord Nelson 35 with one off the very tip of the bowsprit and one off the side with a whisker pole extended and bungied to the rigging.
We stored them near where they would be deployed.

We used three strand with a dockline snubber on each to soften the "engagement pulse" to almost nothing.
Deployment was the first thing done after setting the hook whenever we had any surge at all.

Dockline snubber. Great idea!

I'll be getting of them tomorrow.

Re: A way To Save Charging Time

Twelve days out and everything is working great! The additional battery charger has reduced generator run time by over 60%, and the Solbian solar has the batteries coming right up to float status.

Re: A way To Save Charging Time

The flopper stopper is also working out well. We can deploy one or two depending on need.

They make a big difference.

Re: A way To Save Charging Time

Flopper stopper note: Unable to deploy one off the bow roller due to anchor rode conflict. Deployed it near the bow, but it had little effect. These things seem to need the additional leverage gained by using the boom or spinnaker pole.

I'm pretty sure that not using the inverter to power the galley appliances is a huge portion of that too.
