My dream
boat and home for many years, Integrity, was knocked off its
mooring by runaway
boat in
La Paz Harbor during October’s (2023)
Hurricane Norma.
She drifted and came aground in the sand bottom shallows in front of a resort
hotel. The only damage was a blown out
roller furling staysail that had unfurled and some topside scrapes.
I started
salvage operations within two days of the
hurricane with a local boatyard, but the resort illegally impounded my boat and demanded an extortionate payment before my contractor could pull Integrity out of the shallows.
During the unnecessary
legal process to get control of my boat which was clearly in Mexican federal waters and not on private property, Integrity was badly looted. I guess I was a bit lucky, because other beached
boats were also similarly looted, while some were torched. Sunken and partially sunken
boats still litter the Mogote.
My contractor finally was able to get Integrity out of the shallows a couple of weeks ago, while the resort got my middle finger salute.
The
hull,
rigging,
sails, most of the
propulsion system are still in good shape. Integrity never was inundated.
Interior woodwork, legendary in Hans Christians, is also in pretty good shape.
Looters tore out much of the accesible
wiring, removed almost all of the above waterline
bronze work, stole all the ground tackle, tore out copper
fuel lines.
I am asking $15,000 US for the
project boat Integrity has needlessly become. She is afloat on a
mooring near the Abaroa
boatyards. I have some salvaged
parts at my
La Paz home, including the boom and the freshly repaired (prior to hurricane)
mainsail. The
roller furling 100%
jib is in good shape, repaired in 2018. I have spinnakers for Integrity.
Feel free to contact me with any questions. Any reasonable offers will be considered.
Heartbroken Andy.
