Unplug shore, turn off shore breaker

turn off inverter breaker

turn 110 and 220 selectors to off

start generator

at this point, you should have power available on the 110 switch on the sh/gen position and the gen position of the 220 switch.

Re: A way To Save Charging Time

muchos gracias amigo! It worked!

I'm now charging the batteries and cooking off the genset. By swithing off the shore power and turning the far left lever to shore/gen. Making hot water too! And the ceramic heaters are turned on! Life is good.!

You need ceramic heaters still?!?!?!?!?!

Glad it worked, I thought it was slightly odd that you would need to drain your batteries while running the generator to cook a sausage

Re: A way To Save Charging Time

Yeah, need the ceramic heaters to help dry my clothes indoors. It's not warm enough outside for them to dry, I've needed to resort to the bucket and plunger method to wash them while waiting for washing machine parts to arrive. No big deal.

Tomorrows experiment will be to run down the batteries and see how long it takes to charge them without the additional 40Ah per day deficit.

Good sounds like he really helped you, not hitting the battery bank twice a day with high amp loads to cook may well make it last for years longer.
Do yourself another favor and get a smart gauge, so you really know what the SOC of your bank is.
Being able to charge the bank at its max acceptance rate when cooking, and the Solar may well make it so you can keep the bank topped up.

Re: A way To Save Charging Time

This thread reflects the real world of a great number of cruisers. They don't really understand their electrical systems at all, yet manage just fine overall.

It goes well with advise from people who haven't cruised yet, but insist they have the real answers

When my electronics wizard friend returns in four weeks for a cruise down the coast of Croatia for two weeks, I'll have him re-program the Magnetronic battery management system. Also have him bring along appropriate test equipment for the batteries in case my voltmeter isn't up to the task.

My goodness, how much weight is all this? 700ah@24v? How big of a boat to haul it all?

Standard type equipment on most boats over 53ft and 25 ton displacement.

If it was a LiFePo4 bank of 8 cells, it would weigh 21.6 Kg x 8= 172.8 Kg or 380.16 lbs.

Lead? well....

Also, you need less Ah capacity since the depth of discharge can be so deep with LiFePo or carbon foam

Re: A way To Save Charging Time

It sure is nice to be able to cook with all the galley appliances on at one time. The first time in five years I've been able to do this. The generator is luvin' it.

If you had only asked the right question ............................ 5 years ago!

Do you have a boat manual with electrical diagrams? If not you should ask Oyster for one and get someone you teach you how to read it if needed.
