B&G Zeus 2 taking autonomous control of autopilot

HI,

I have a 2016 L450F... We just completed a passage from St Martin to Bonaire... on the second evening of the passage the salon B&G chartplotter took over control of the autopilot and autonomously changed course....

We usually use the flybridge B&G to run navigation, and I was on watch on the fb when the boat suddenly gybed... luckily we were sailing with just the jib... When I scurried down into the salon I saw the B&G there was running through autopilot menus and making selections... Went back to the fb and furled the jib, and started the engines.. We then powered down the nav system and rebooted it... It looked like the problem persisted, so repowered a second time and we we able to get control of the autopilot back to the fb..

During the hours leading up to this, we noticed that the touch screen function in the salon did not seem to work. It took a number of pokes before anything would happen.

Once we recovered and were back on course, we stopped trying to use the salon B&G and only used the fb B&G for the rest of the trip.

We have the latest B&G patches applied...

Once we got to Bonaire I tried the salon B&G and it seemed to work fine... Anyone else seen anything like this?

Oh, and when I tried to rejoin my route, the B&G system wanted to go back to my last waypoint, about 150nm behind us, so had to use a heading as opposed to an autopilot route...

Regards, Rick

Re: B&G Zeus 2 taking autonomous control of autopilot

I have had similar but not a quite the same. I also have Zeus 2.

My was unable to disengage the auto pilot a couple of times- needed to turn off instuments.

But no autonomous change of course.

On the waypoint issue - there must be a way of doing a "skip to next waypoint" as on Raymarine but I haven't work it out yet!

Hi, I have Zeus 2 also. I just bought my boat.
I'm currently shopping for echarts that will work with this system. What do you recommend?
Thanks Stefan

HI,

I use Navionics charts on the B&G... And I also run Maxsea TimeZero on a laptop using Maxsea charts as a backup and alternative chart for checking the route...

Regards, Rick

Re: B&G Zeus 2 taking autonomous control of autopilot

I found the source of my problem. The helm station remote control looses communication with the system. I can still drive autopilot navigation through Zeus without a switch off. I managed to reestablish the remote control communication by using the helm station control just once by going into standby.

There is ... from the chart view: Menu->Navigation->Skip will move onto the next waypoint along a course.
