WOT? - no one want's free crew ???

Re: Right now - in Ft. Lauderdale

I can't believe I came all the way from Montreal - at exorbitant expense (;-) - hoping to improve my keel-boat experience and yet be met with total silence on my request above!

Now come come on guys/gals - give a bloke a fair break (free beer remember, you won't be sorry - :-) - and let me crew with/for you for the last part of my 'holiday'.

You'll remember (of course) that "It's better to give than receive" and that "what goes around comes around" :-)

So, ta ta for now: hope you enjoyed the fun in the message :-)

Fair winds etc.

Nank

Good lucj with your search for a ride.

You must be aware that you're asking for a couple to pick-up a hitchhiker and take them home and to be responsible for your actions while you are signed onto their boat in other countries.

Nanki-Poo,

If I understand your message correctly, you propose to crew on some forum member's boat , learn more about keel boats, and drink that member's beer. So far, you have not indicated what you might do that would appeal to them. After all, you are not the son of the Mikado and offer no indication you're a wandering minstrel. ;-) You're a "snow bird". If you really want to crew, offer to help a boat owner working on his own boat in a boatyard. Maybe you'll be offered a ride when someone gets to know you and appreciate your sense of humor. Or go to a yacht club and offer to crew on low level race boats. Shout the other guys beers.

Re: WOT? - no one want's free crew ???

Wot? You expect to come on my boat, into my home and be cruised about the place for free?
Go try charter a boat in a similar location and you'll pay $5,000 per week for the cheapest Moorings Sunsial boat.

And all you'd give is a beer?

The thing that sux about freeloaders like you is you won't even offer to do any work in exchange.

But you want it all for a beer?

Re: WOT? - no one want's free crew ???

ok, so you want to
come into boat owner's HOME and eat and drink and lounge for FREE
and RIDE a sailboat to wherever the individual is trying to sail ....
and allow the owner to PAY for
fuel
food
beer
entertainment
instruction for you
in owner's
HOME

for gratis.

sorry i have other commitments. just because i am making a 569 mile passage in a couple weeks doesnt mean i neeed free baggage in my way.

ON THE OTHER HAND......if you are willing to
help pay for haul out
food beer
entertainment
fuel
and i didnt even mention room..lol..or working on boat....or watch standing...
then, we can mebbe talk a minuet.

as the old saying went--ass, gas or grass..no one rides for free....i have met a few sailors who could afford anothe r dependent, but most are fond of their freedom and save as much money as possible. some folks i know charge crew 100 dollars per week....

I can't believe that with all the south bound Canadians that flock here by the thousands every year in winter you couldn't convince one of them to give you a free lift for a few beers.

Re: WOT? - no one want's free crew ???

My impressions so far with regard to crew is that it would be great to have an extra pair of eyes on long passages and an extra pair of hands when in the boatyard but that the needed assessment, coordination, care of extra inexperienced crew and wanting my boat all to myself at the end of the voyage has so far outweighed any benefits.

Sadly AIS, radar and a plotter are now planned instead of an extra pair of eyes and I just shell out a few extra boat bucks when the boat hits the yard.

And my boat is mine, all mine, yar hear...

Re: WOT? - no one want's free crew ???

Dear members (John A, Don L, Ann T Cate, Mark J and Zeehag)

I am (WOT :-) shall I say) - staggered that my little joke has been SO misunderstood !!! :-(((

If anyone had bothered to read the referenced "Right now - in Ft. Lauderdale" post, you would have seen what this latter post was all about - and it was deliberately couched in humour for your amusement and delight: why did I bother ???
I'm very sorry that you (all) took it that it was I who was expecting "beers" etc., etc.; Nothing could be further from my statements - and the truth!!!
I am NOT, NOT, NOT !!! a freeloader and those who want to 'assume' otherwise have NO idea with whom they're dealing - and, I'm afraid, will probably never have their error revealed: sorry about that !
I pay my way ALWAYS !!! - and accept NO favours from anyone - and ONLY gifts from TRUE friends - so put that in your pipes and smoke that !!!
It seems my attempt at humour was sorely misplaced and was totally misunderstood - and that really bothers me as I had assumed a higher level of intelligence for the members of this particular club/forum !
You, Zeehag, particularly, should have known better! How could you POSSIBLY have so misread my post when - for quite a while - we corresponded quite amiably until, for some unknown reason, the correspondence ceased - maybe you had pulled the hook: perhaps you had forgotten my profile name - I don't know.

OK, perhaps I should reconsider whether I still want to be a member of "Cruisersforum" : I had considered that I might possibly be an asset to the group: now maybe I should reconsider!

To others who read my post and were NOT offended, thank you !
To the others, bless you: may you reflect on your posts and hopefully review them in a kinder light.

Regards, Nank

PS: I have found in my old age, that most people don't give offence - but most people take it. - just a thought.

Re: WOT? - no one want's free crew ???

i wasnt offended but i had to --devilmade me do it--make a bad...

i have interviewed some funny souls for crew--one must joke about some of this stuff--even as we make serious requests....

but, seriously, i am seeking a true slave personality for over 500 miles of down hill sailing in a pacific ocean full of no wind until it is way too much.....and, then, in and from the wrong direction, generally speaking..lol

Clearly everyone would rather singlehand than deal with a drunk Frenchman.

Re: WOT? - no one want's free crew ???

hay nanki--whenye coming this way??/ i go south in mebbe 3 weeks--hoping to find a yard somewhere nearby--i do have work to do , and not asking anyone to share this special feature...i am hoping to find a successful and not hair raising passage sometime soon, but i can never guarantee that with my old brick of a boat--there is always something...
messenger ceased to function during a stint with linux, and now i am back with windows again, so i again have messenger-and i am in zihuatenejo, now, for another 3 or so weeks. been into a lot of repairs on this brick while in la cruz and mazatlan--next stop--not certain as yet--mebbe huatulco, mebbe chiapas--must have usable yard and a marina for summer use. and a not too distant town for groceries

Praising it won't get you anywhere either. Especially since it's spelled intelligence.
